I want to know what BUhas to offer for African Americans.
Admission Advantage? (if applicant meets all standard requirements)
Financial help?
Minority Recruitment?
Special Minority Programs?
Minority Medical Education?

Anything you can think of PLEASE? I really like the school but my Dad thinks otherwise becuase of the lack of African-Americans . . . but if i can prove bu has a lot to offer maybe he will change his mind.

I also will need a substantial amount of financial assistance.

BU has all of the above. You’ll definitely be at an advantage in admissions, there are specific scholarships, recruitment and many programs while you’re a student here (look online at BU’s Howard Thurman Center - there are a lot of programs there for students of any ethnicity, especially minority students), and I know BU has special groups for minority premed and engineers.

The school does lack African-Americans compared to some other private schools, but one thing I can say is that the students I know of all minorities are incredibly integrated. I’m friends with a number of hispanic and black students, as well as many Asian, Indian, and European students. BU has a lot of diversity and I never see students grouped at lunch tables or in friend groups based around race.

Also, our Dean of Students, Dean Elmore, is the coolest person at the school and helps run a lot of the minority programs. He’s completely awesome and helps make the school an even more accepting and welcoming place toward people of all backgrounds.

Hope that helps! And I hope you consider BU! The school is very good with providing need and merit aid for students it wants. I needed a lot of financial assistance as well and was not disappointed!
