AFS Foreign Exchange

Are there any foreign exchange students here, in America, using the American Field Service (AFS) as their form of high school foreign exchange?

I plan on going to Portugal next year using this program and would like information by how the students actually feel about this particular program and if they like it or not.

THANKS!

hey i once been a member of this program.

i was a host for a group of american high school students here in shanghai to visit my current school

as i am the host, i have a girl who is quite the same age as me as my buddy. during their three weeks here, she lived in my house, ate together and went to school together. I would like to say it is so much fun to have a foreign friend. I always take her to some local attractions here in Shanghai, China. She was definitely appreciate our local food and special chinese-style clothes. LOL

though I haven't been to potugal or europe. but i would recommend you to take in this program. you will be taken good care by your host family and the school you visit. you will have a lot of new friends and have fun with them. you will have the opportunity to learnt another culture in another country, even another language.. maybe just a little though LOL

it will also show your strong personality when you apply for the colleges. cus my buddy wrote this experience in her college admission essay and it impressed the admission official very much so she got in a nice university now!

good luck!

I hope you are still here, original poster. I did AFS this last semester as a part of AFS and I in fact went to Portugal. It was a tremendous experience and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Davan, i would love to contact you more....
