I am senior now, and have committed to a college for lacrosse. Now when I visited over the summer and again during the fall the coach told me that he would get me into this college. He said " Now without me, you would't be able to get into this college but with me I can get you in." During my senior year, I made a horrible decision to go to a football game under the influence of Marijuana and was suspended for it. I have never got in trouble with school before and am a respectable student. Will this in any way ruin my chances still to get into this school?

Honestly, I’ve heard that it won’t. Colleges understand that you make stupid decisions as a teen. For sports it might be different (and the coach might not be telling you the truth, be wary), but it probably shouldn’t. Don’t do it again.

Not to be too blunt, but if you were tested at college that would warrant a year suspension from your sport. Smoking doesn’t make you a bad person, it just makes you ineligible.

If you were a coach, would you want that influence brought to the team? (And, yes, mj is smoked on campus, and, yes, it is smoked by athletes. And, yes, it ends collegiate careers - just ask LSU.)

While a college may not have an issue with the suspension, a coach may very well not want that type of player.

You made a bad decision (hopefully you didn’t drive to the game), there are consequences for poor decisions. Meanwhile, there is another recruit knocking down the coach’s door who didn’t get into trouble or will to bring trouble to the team chemistry (pun intended).

Ask this question on the athletic admit thread and see what those posters have to offer.

Good luck and tell us how it turns out.
