Again like all the others...(Chanes at Ivys ect.)

The first thing that I would like to say is I get nervous every time I read these boards. Every who posts a “can I get in” is a person with a 1590, worrying about the ten points they got off, and is also afraid because their ran is #1 in only the 6th best ranked school in their state. OH NO, THE 6th BEST, THAT’S SO BAD! Also they have so little activities, only about 20 per year. To everyone like this, unless you have a serious communication problem and your teachers hate you for some reason, you are going to get in. If not then I am screwed :P.

Anyway I am going for all the Ivys and going early for MIT(its my #1 choice)

Un weighted GPA: 3.893/4.3
(I think that would be a 3.85 on a 4.0 scale)
Rank: 6/230(it’s a small school)

SAT1:1560(800 Math; 760 English)
Sat2s pending(took in October and retaking 2 in November)
What I intend/expect/hope to get:
Math II:770
Writing:760
Physics:770

APs(my school doesn’t offer many, only 2 other I think I could have possibly taken)
Comp Sci A-5
The APs currently being taken: Calc AB, Calc BC, Phys B, Literature
I am also taking college level accounting.

My courses have been basically the hardest in my school, and I have been in my schools G&T program for 4 years.

Sorta on the low side with E.C.s:
1. Engineering, Technology, and Design Club (9-12)
2. Key Club (10-12)
3. P.B.A. #38 Street Hockey League (9-12)
4. National Honor Society (11-12) - Treasurer
6. Panasonic Design Challenge (10)
7. Debate Club (12)
8. Math Team(12)
9. Ski Club (11-12)

I have about 100 hours of community service at a local nursing home.
I have also been part of a lot of learn and serve projects.
This summer I attended Steven’s Institute of Technology ECOES (Exploring Career Options in Engineering and Science) program.
I am in “Who’s who of American High School Students” for 2004

My letters of recommendation are great, and for MIT I haven’t don’t my interview yet but its only because I’m having some problems on contacting the interviewer and I have talked to someone about it already.

Well what do you think? Also, could someone give me some good safety schools(or good fit)?

Thanks a lot everyone.

Also, pardon the typo in the title. I am not the greatest typer in the world.

No u ar noot

but u arnet teh wosrt either

Oh, and u have no hope.... no hope kid... just give up now

It's ironic, that you mocked yourself in your preamble...

I mean 1560 SATs, 750+ SATs, top 5% of grade.... clearly you have no chance.

Well my everyone likes to bring up my good SAT scores when I ask them my oppinion. My SAT score is my best quality I could say. SAT2s I did not get back yet so anything can happen with those, and for the top colleges 100% were in top 10% of their school and probably 75% or more were in top 5%(this part I am just guessing) so that I am asuming is standard. But I dont have that many ECs and awards so I was asking oppinion more toward that.
Thanks for you oppinion though.

You should get in MIT ED, but you might get deferred since nothing is a shoo in. HYP might not work out, but at least a couple of the rest of the Ivies will.

Your test scores are certainly not going to be what keeps you out. Your grades first term, particularly in the APs will be scrutinized, especially if your school is not a known factor. Your ECs, essays and recs will probably be the tipping factors along with what the applicant pool is like this year.

Since MIT is your top choice school, I suggest you look at some other tech schools that are not as selective as back ups. Renessalaer, U of Rochester, Clark, Clarkson, Carnegie Mellon, Case Western, Georgia Tech are all well known tech schools. If you want more of a full liberal arts environment like the ivies offer, check out Vanderbilt, Tulane, and other such schools that have a good engineering/tech department.

Ok thanks alot everyone, and thanks jamimom I will look into those.
