In order to get into Africa do you have to start a program about helping people with AIDs in africa or something or similar calibur? Since I read a lot of posts here, and people say you have poor ECs if you didn't do such a thing...

Umm...what?

This post isn't worded so well. Please re-state yourself.

Also, are we talking about the University of Africa or Africa State University? :p

oops, I mean't in order to get into "Ivy league" not africa... Why the hell won't it allow me to edit my post? Plus no sigs or avatar...

Ok...almost all Sub-Saharan African countries (other than South Africa) are extrordinarily dangerous for Americans. You'd be risking your life by spending a good deal of time there. By doing that, you would be "hooked." Why not try doing something in your community to help AIDs victims. Creative fundraising and other activism, while not as impressive as taking a plane to Kenya, could look good as well.

So, no. You don't have to go to Africa and help those with AIDs in order to get into an ivy league school.

You don't need to do something like that, it just raises your chances, or makes up for another part of your applicaiton.

Go to Africa to help those with AIDS to get into the ivy league? NO! If that was the truth, all those wanting to attend the ivy would go there. Just do what you love and it will naturally become a passion.

There are a lot of people in the US that have AIDS, why not help them? I mean I know Africa's nice and stuff, but I mean our people need help to. So if you're truly in it to help people, stay here. Be careful though.

Similar discussion has already taken place

Yeah, and we've already established that eliminating world hunger is a better EC than curing AIDS. Damn people.

I think this joke is gonna get old. :(

"Ok...almost all Sub-Saharan African countries (other than South Africa) are extrordinarily dangerous for Americans."

This is absurd.
I lived in Africa for nearly six years - and traveled to more than 35 African nations. (and raised my two young sons there.) Sure, there are dangerous places in Africa, but to call the entire continent "extrraordinarily dangerous for Americans" is bizarre. Are you serious? Or, just making this up?

It's called AIDS not AIDs. there aren't a bunch of AID's. gaaah!

The first part about getting into an Ivy is learining how to spell.

it isn't spelling, it's an acronym

Acquired
Immune
Deficiency
Syndrome

FYI.

I know what it is...I go to a medical magnet high school

Anyone who has taken health or bio should know what it stands for.
