Ailey/Fordham BFA Program

Hi Everyone,

I'm a High School Freshmen looking to major in Dance in college (yes, I know I am thinking far ahead). Ailey (my dream school) has a partnership with Fordham allowing you to get your college degree while studying dance at Ailey.

But, you have to be admitted to both Ailey and Fordham separately. Which brings me to a few questions ...

1) How much would they look at 9th grade grades? I have a 3.0 GPA, and Fordham looks at 3.5 GPA's.

2) If I continue to get my GPA going upward, would they take that into consideration?

3) Are they lenient to dancers or people applying into other programs where academics wouldn't be their main focus in college?

Thanks!

I don’t know of anyone who regularly posts here that is with the dance program but hopefully someone will pop in and give you some more detailed info.

Here is what I do know. Your application will be reviewed and yes, an upward trend in your GPA will surely be noticed. Your audition will be very important but I honestly have no idea if a strong audition will outweigh a lower academic profile.

The Ailey/Fordham program is a BFA and so much more of your time will be spent in the dance studio than in the classroom. You will not be required to complete the same demanding core curriculum as other Fordham majors.

Thanks for the response!
