I am in no way pretentious or high maintenance, but when USC says they have no air conditioning does it mean individual rooms don’t or that the whole residence hall lacks air conditioning? Thanks for answers!
The whole residence hall-- and it is ok to take this into consideration. It can be quite unbearable in Aug/Sept/Oct.
arob1129,
Students use fans. Los Angeles does not have the humidity as we have here in Georgia summers. As far as I recall all other buildings on campus have central air conditioning.
Residences that DO have air conditioning are:
Arts & Humanities
Fluor Tower
International Residential College at Parkside
Webb Tower
Cardinal Gardens (Apt. style)
Small stand alone air conditioning units are permitted. Window units are NOT permitted.
Greek sorority houses are all air conditioned.
This summer was fairly unbearable without air conditioning when it got up to the high 90’s during the night. We would sleep downstairs in Birnkrant where there was air conditioning or in our RA’s room because he had a portable air conditioning unit. Otherwise we would wake up in a pool of sweat. I ended up changing sheets every night because it’d just be unbearable to sleep on the used sheets. It’s definitely something to take into consideration but keep in mind that there are dorms with air conditioning as well.
Fans simply move hot air around. My D lived in Birnkrant freshman year and used 3-- still very uncomfortable. Has made it a priority to have AC every year since. She’s from the SF bay area though, so not tough when it comes to any weather whatsoever, lol.
Daughter and her roomie had several fans. They were on the 6th floor of Pardee. In So Cal we don’t have much humidity so it is better than more humid climates. If you are someone who sweats a lot, yes, you are going to sweat. If you are from a much cooler climate it may not be comfortable. It is a walk in the park for people from the Southwest Girls had cool drinks and 4 tabletop fans and were fine in the fall. Climate cools around the 3rd/4th week of October. Libraries have AC, food places have AC. If you aren’t a fan of warmth then by all means arrange for a place with AC. They cost more but it will probably be worth it for you.
