Non AC Dorms

Most of the dorms at USC which are considered social like New/North and Birnkrant are Non AC. Is this an inconvenience?
Since I am an international student, I have no idea about the LA weather.

Please help. Need to apply ASAP.

No, you do not need AC. It gets pretty hot in the spring and fall but you are not there in the summer and the buildings are not that stifling.

My DS is in one of the older dorms… in a cramped room with no AC. The first week there, he complained to us that his round turbo fan was NOT doing the job… his room was stifling. We bought a tall tower fan from Costco- it came with a remote control and a mini tower fan that they set up across the room. After that, the room as been very comfortable.

Most people from Southern California do not think the lack of A/C is terrible since L.A. cools way down at night, mostly. The high heat tends to be worst end of August, throughout all of September although this year was the coolest in recent memory! But many students do not spend a lot of time in their dorm rooms during the daytime (hottest) hours, and fans like the one Minnymom recommends will work well. That said, my SoCal S2 really likes to keep cool and that was part of why he selected Parkside A&H.

The first two weeks in August are incredibly hot, but because of welcome week stuff and everything else I didn’t really spend a lot of time at home during that period. However, at night you’ll be glad there’s no AC.

I’m from Chicago and I much prefer several feet of snow to a cold, dry night in Los Angeles.

Thanks all of you, this has been very helpful.
