sweetness :) (The skiing not the restriction) And I'd definately pay that much for a pass to all those ski areas.

My impression from people who have attended GT is that it doesn't provide a "typical" college experience either - there is a lot of work...and more so than most. So if you want a more "classic" college experience I would leave Atlanta and head for a place like Clemson. Academically GT and Air Force are pretty similar except for the fact that Air Force is much more undergraduate focused.

yea, i talked to a guy who went to GT. Definitely nothing like the AFA.

Alright guys, which one of you is correct?

Both. Gasdoc is saying that they're relatively similar academically, but it's also true that they're totally different overall.

Have you visited Georgia Tech and the AFA? That's a good starting point, since most colleges don't force you to make an admissions decision until May 1st. Then, as missmuff said, make a list of pros and cons. You may be sruprised at what you list out.

I visited both GT and USAFA before I came. I really liked GT, but USAFA has been my dream. But then, that's me. ;)

Then there is the favorite "you guys need to step it up....so we are restricting you" that can apply to squadrons, groups, or in our current situation, the entire freshman class 9but I will not go into that)

Probably didn't notice, but I was standing right behind him next to the screen listening while you guys were talked to. Since that speech, I have caught no less than 20 4 digs either talking on the strips, failing to run when they should be, talking in the stairwells thinking no uppers were around, and generally whining about how life sucks. I have no pity.

this same stuff happens every year, i hear.

Usually does in some way or another. But, to be honest, I haven't seen this hard of a crackdown since I've been here. We'll see how the course rides itself out.

...Why? What happend that the whole class got restricted? If its ok to ask. :)

Well, here's an absolutely hilarious website all about ga tech...

http://www.geocities.com/GTsux2002/

Take this with a grain of salt though but it's pretty funny. I had the same dilemma before coming here to usafa (and we have the same sense of humor here it seems...)

well, afa 13, according to the wing commander, half of us care about the air force academy and freshman year, while the other half of us don't.

therefore, to encourage an environment where more of us care, we got restricted.

(i hope that sounded dispassionate enough)

yes you accomplished it quite well ;)

Still not learning the lessons...very sad.

i wasn't trying to be cynical...that's how the situation was explained to us (or at least i think)

so...

i guess i can just try to be in that top 50%!

I know what was said, I was standing next to the screen as he said it!

This screams cynicism, I hope you realize. Either way, do try to be in the top half. And try to bring up those from the bottom half.

Think about the AF outside the academy. If there are serious issues, a plane crashes, 10 DUIs in a month, etc. They call an operational pause. Stay behind and figure out what's going on. Reflect and figure out where to fix things and get on the right path. That's what is being done. Stop, get a hold of your role as a cadet, and figure out where you need to go to become a successful upperclassmen. That is what we are asking. For those that get cynical and complain that restriction doesn't help, yadda yadda yadda, need to rethink some things. Not being able to go out on the weekend is hardly an inconvenience and you will face far worse as a cadet and later on. (PS, the you isn't specific to you undercoveraviatr, but to 4 digs in general) Losing sight of the mission is dangerous, hopefully squadron leadership will figure out how to bring the class of 2012 back to their mission.

i see .

but basically what he was saying was: guys its close to recognition and, as tradition, we need to annoy you guys more before we give you all the privileges in the world :)

No, not cynicism, im perfectly happy because only 18 days left. It's tradition though. Same thing happened to last year's class lol.

Someone in 2011 told me 08's crest was gone through Recognition... they brought it back when they came back from the rock, apparently...

my freshman year, all the 4 digs in my squad were woken up at 0500 on a saturday for a sl-AMI, then all received 25 confinements for sucking. it's just a part of life, and we made some great memories b/c of it.

during my last training session one kid looked tired so i told him to stand=up and stop doing the exercise, and he did. he didn't even have enough sense of pride or teamwork to put out with his classmates, and no one was going to help him. it's quite sad.
