Air Force ROTC - Commute from UR to RIT

Hello to all! I'd appreciate some advice as to my situation. I'm considering enrolling into University of Rochester this upcoming fall. My only concern is that upon contact with the commander of the AFROTC unit in RIT (which hosts the detachment for the area, including UR), he said that there currently aren't any AFROTC cadets coming from UR.

My question is: would the constant commute to RIT be difficult? What would be the best transportation method be to attend all of the training days? I don't live in the United States, so I'm not familiar with the area, yet alone the transportation available in the Rochester area.

Any advice from current cadets, students, or anyone else really(!) would be appreciated. Thanks!

The campuses are only about 15 min apart by car/bus. I would look into the bus situation. Depends upon how often you would have to make the trek per week.

Hi MADad! Thanks for the advice. I just wonder if buses would be running as early as 6am… I know I’d have to commute for physical training, leadership lab, and AS100 classes in the first year. I know there’s the option of carpooling, but as of right now, I have no assurance that that’s a solid plan with no one doing the AFROTC program from UR.

Another question that comes to mind is: would it be foolish to pass up the change to attend a college that already hosts Air Force ROTC on-campus? I also got into engineering at University of Miami, North Carolina State University, Michigan Tech, and Clarkson University, which all host AFROTC on their respective campuses.

Bump. Any current students/cadets here?
