Anyone have problems doing so when visiting Emory?

Blaze, I haven't encountered any serious problems... I've been visiting Atlanta on and off since 1980, and I think MARTA works pretty well. I've stayed in downtown, mid-town and the Emory University area.

Last summer, I spent quite a bit of time on MARTA with my daughter so that she could get the feel of the system. Since MARTA is at the airport, it's very convenient to use. From Emory, if you take the #6 Bus from Emory (on N. Decatur Rd.) to the Lindbergh Station (about 15 mins, depending on the traffic), you can then catch the South-bound MARTA rail train direct to the airport -- from Lindbergh Station, it's probably about 30 mins. or less and takes you right into the airport terminal.

If you're driving from Emory, I'd take N. Decatur Rd. to Briarcliff (make a left) and then continue straight down for about 5 miles (approx., I'm guessing) until you get to Route 20 (you see a sign for Interstate 85), where you make a right and go for a short distance to connect with I-85 - South. Keep on I-85-South for another couple of miles, and you'll see the exit for the Airport. Last Monday, early in the AM, it only took me 25 minutes from Emory.

Coming from Omaha, you can expect that traffic during rush hours can be heavier than what you've seen, but since I'm from the S.F. Bay Area, it doesn't seem too bad. The Clifton Corridor and Clairmont Road areas are not good during parts of the day.

How are you doing so far?

Thanks, as always, for the helpful information.

I'm still getting use to the Atlanta grid lock & MARTA. I feel as if I have found my place within Emory's campus itself, the professors have been great (with one exception which I dropped that class, oh, and somewhat surprised that half of my classes will be taught by grad students), a few clubs really have been awesome, some subjects I am very excited about, and the campus feels like home already..but greater Atlanta is still "out there" to be explored.

My parents and I had difficulty finding Emory while driving -- Peachtree road is NOT the same as Peachtree ave., the roads are NOT straight, and there is a lot of traffic. We actually ended up at Georgia Tech rather than Emory on our arrival. MARTA and cabs seem like a safer bet than driving for the novice.

A family friend had a four hour lay over in Atlanta's airport today, and we had intended to meet up and eat somewhere along the rail tracks by the Airport. Think: College Park. However, due to the circumstances, we did not meet up. After I go to the airport one of these days, by way of the number six then rail as you say, I will be prepared to tackle this opportunity if it comes around again.

Thank you NorCalDad for the MARTA directions to the airport from Emory. Just booked our son's flight home for Thanksgiving. I'm hoping that I allowed enough time for him to leave campus at 4pm for a 7:30pm flight. I would imagine that his only delay could be from the bus in traffic to the rail station.

I thought I would just double-check the schedule for MARTA, and it appears that the Northbound #6 Emory Bus runs every 20 minutes or so. The bus stops at the corner of N. Decatur Rd. & Clifton Rd. and runs up Clifton, so it would be just as easy to catch the #6 Bus on Clifton, say close to the Emory Hospital near Uppergate Dr. -- not too distant from the dorms.

Heres the #6 Lindbergh Bus Schedule (Southbound goes TOWARD Emory; Northbound goes FROM Emory toward the Lindbergh Station):

From the Lindbergh Station, transfer to the North-South Rail Line, going South, and it will be about 13 stops to the Airport, the end of the South-bound Line, and about 30 minutes from Lindbergh Station (plus up to 10 minutes for the next train to arrive). Be sure to have your son get a transfer from the bus driver when he boards the #6 Bus. The one-way cost, including transfer, will be $1.75

This will be the exact means for my daughter getting to the airport as well.

You have been so helpful! Really appreciate it. Is your daughter a freshman? What day is she flying out and what dorm is she in, if you don't mind me asking. Our son is in Trimble Hall.

Holdon, you're welcome... it was something I needed to just confirm for my daughter anyway, so no problem. Yes, my daughter is a freshman, and she's in Longstreet Hall, not too distant from Trimble. She'll actually be staying in Atlanta for Thanksgiving but will come home for the Winter break in Dec-Jan.

ooh.. completely off topic here, but longstreet won songfest! congrats to her, they were very good! (i still think complex shouldve won, though!) ;)

Thanks for this timely info! We are just looking to book flights at Thanksgiving and, since he'll be toting minimal junk, this looks as if it's a good way to go.

Holdon - My son is also in Trimble. Check your pm box.

Any idea how reliable and expensive taxi service is to the airport?

There is shuttle service from the Emory Inn for $22/one way or $39 round trip. It leaves every 30 minutes (depending on demand). The Atlanta Superior Shuttle 770-457-4794 or www.atlsuperiorshuttle.com

There is also a cab company, Checker Cab Company 404-351-1111 which charges about $42 - $45 for a single rider. I have no idea on the reliability of either option. Sorry...

When we stayed at the Emory Inn last fall, we used the shuttle, and it was fine.

Emory has shuttles that go to Lindbergh station on the days that school holidays (i.e. the Friday prior to fall break, the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving) are going to start so you don't have to worry about the MARTA bus.

Giants, thanks for the information... good to know...
