help getting around atlanta area

Hi, I'm going to be visiting Emory and Georgia Tech with a friend. Can anyone tell me how to get around using public transportation and what my options would be? Best area of Atlanta to stay in also would be helpful.
Thanks,

Hey! so Atlanta is a pretty difficult city to navigate compared to other large metros. With that said, the trip from GT to Emory is about 4-5 miles but can take about 30-45 minutes on MARTA.

Plan A- You should take the MARTA Red or Gold Line train from either Midtown or North Avenue stations (depending on which station is nearest where at Georgia Tech you’ll be) to the Lindbergh station. There, you transfer to the #6 Emory bus. You take that straight to campus (about a 15-minute bus ride).

Plan B- is to take Bus 36 from the Midtown Red/Gold Line station straight to Emory’s campus. The stop is off Clifton and North Decatur. That entire bus ride is about 20-30 minutes.

Plan C- Check out the Emory-Georgia Tech Cliff shuttles! They run every 2 hours in each direction, I believe. Google “Emory Georgia Tech shuttle schedule” for more info.

As for where to stay, no real safety concerns anywhere north of I-20 and west of I75/I85, and west of I75 once the two split off. Check out the city of Decatur, Buckhead, Midtown, and the general Emory area (which could mean anything from Toco Hill to the Executive Park area). There are some hotels off Buford Highway and N Druid Hills Rd that may be affordable too. The areas around both Tech and Emory are safe. The area around Emory is rather affluent too.

how bout downtown ATL?

and would the other areas be convenient to both?

Midtown is between both locations

ok but downtown seems to have the best prices for hotels. Would downtown be pretty acceptible, without a car?
would any of these areas work better like buckhead and decatur?

Check out the hotels located on Emory Campus and see if any of them work for you: Emory Conference Center Hotel and Emory Inn, both on Clifton Road, and University Inn on N. Decatur Road.
