Whats the best way to get to the airport; what do most students do? Does UVA provide a bus from the campus to the Charlottesville airport? Or is there one to Dulles? Since I am from the west coast, flying out of Dulles would be ideal because of the JetBlue's low airfare. Any inside information would help. Thanks!

No UVa doesn't offer a shuttle to Dulles, there is an airport in charlottesville that airport code is CHO. I know Delta and United fly into it and there are some others.

Per our last Alumni news, Northwest has started flying into Charlottesville out of Detroit. I haven't checked the economics of it, but if Jet Blue goes to Detroit, it might be an alternative.

The nearest airport is at Charlottesville. Then there's one at Richmond, and then over at Washington DC there's Dulles Int'l, Ronald Reagan National, and Baltimore-Washington, in increasing order of distance from UVa. Greyhound runs a shuttle from Dulles to the depot at Charlottesville.

There is a shuttle service that will pick you up at your dorm & take you to the C'ville airport, & meet you at the airport when you return. It's called "Van On The Go" & is listed in the "Parent to Parent" booklet that your parents will get from the University of Virginia Parents Program. This spiral bound booklet has just about everything you need to know about the area. I believe the cost was around $35 RT a couple of years ago. We found that using the C'ville airport is the way to go. By the time you find a way to Dulles or Richmond & park a car (if you have one), you only save a little money while gaining alot of hassle & wasting alot of time.

is it possible to take a metro somewhere in DC and then transfer on a shuttle, bus, train, to uva?

all of the above

do you know where I can go to find this info? I tried looking on the washington DC metro website but found nothing.

rose, have you checked on the amtrak and greyhound sites? Charlottesville has both an amtrak and greyhound station which might suit your needs.

How accessible is the amtrak station in Charlottesville?

wahoo2007, approx how far away from the campus itself is amtrak and greyhound station?

The train is just blocks from campus.

And there's always the free trolley you can take to get you from the Amtrek and Greyhound stations to the Grounds.
