It’s a huge jump in the rankings for Bama. Seems like they were around 98 last year (cant remember the exact number). It’s one of the biggest improvements for any university this year.

Hey, just to fun, I made lists for the big 5 BCS conferences since most of the big research universities are affiliated with one of those conferences. (Sorry Big East, I don’t even know who all your members are!)

I made this rather quickly, so there may be mistakes!

Happy to see us move up and outrank that school across the state. But I think it is strange that schools like FSU are ranked so poorly compared with UA and AU. VERY few get into FSU with an ACT
below 24. Auburn’s website usually has a breakdown off where ethe various Southern schools rank on each US News criteria, so will be intreating to see why UA jumped up in the rankings so much. S

Tier 1 used to be the top quartile, Tier 2 was the second quartile, and so forth. The, US News began combining the top 2 quartiles and calling it Tier 1 - the third and fourth tiers were still the third and fourth quartiles. Staring this year, they’re ranking the top 75% and calling it Tier 1. The fourth quartile remains unranked.

Don’t know if this is unprecedented or not.

I think part of the problem was that Bama was improperly ranked last year. I have to admit that I have been counting the months since last August’s ridiculous ranking.

Seems UA benefited from a change in the weighting of certain criteria. Plus, they added input from high school counselors, which greatly benefited UA.

I think US News tweeks the rankings criteria a bit every year to prevent schools from manipulating their place in the rankings.

It’s great to hear that Alabama has jumped so far in the rankings! Definitely helpful as something to use when I have to defend Bama to my parents.
