Alexandre???

I would be surprised if Michigan did not accept you. You are in the top 7% of your class, you have close to a 4.0 unweighed GPA and you have taken a tough course load, including several AP classes. If you took AP exams and got 4s and 5s, your chances improve a little more.

Your ACT is about average by Michigan standards, so you are fine there and you applied at a reasonable time. So I would say your chances are good. Of course, Michigan does reject students with your stats, but you are ok for the most part. You should hear back from Michigan soon. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the kind words, Alexandre. However, I think I'm scarred for life (or at least for this week) since I have to go to U of M next Tuesday for an eye appointment, and I haven't been accepted there yet. Yes, my eye doctor works at U of M in the Kellogg Eye Center, and he's been my eye doctor for basically my entire life. It's been kind of a routine before now going there, but this time, I think it might be a little different (unfortunately, not on the basis of getting eye drops but on other things). Before now, I always thought of the students and doctors there to have some sort of superiority over me, but this time, I don't really feel that way (whether or not I get accepted there). I kind of think of myself as in their playing field (maybe it's the age similiarity or because I'm just applying there, I don't know).

Good luck with your eye exam. The Kellogg Eye Center is arguably the best of its kind in the world. It is not surprising that as a child, you were intimidated by the place. And let us know when you hear back from Michigan.

Well this is a question for Alexandre specifically, just because I figured he would know if anybody knew.

1)I have taken 2 APs a year junior and senior years (instead of the 3 each year if most rigorous curriculum)

2) Most importantly I am only in the top 20 percent of my class (They only do deciles, I wouldnt know if I were 11% or 19% just that im between 10 and 20). My school only has three students in the top 10 percent, and does not officially rank, but I think I am probably number 5 or 6 out of 36 in a pretty competitive college preparatory school.

You said in a post a while ago that if you are not in the top 10 percent of your class, you have virtually no chance. I know my other scores and GPA can make up for some of that, but I still cannot help but think that unless you are in the top 10 percent, you do not have a "good" chance for Michigan.

Any thoughts? Thank you for all the help.

(Sorry for stealing your thread reeses414, have you heard back yet?)

lol, Keep the thread. It's yours.

To answer the question that you asked me, I have not heard from them yet (and from what others have been saying, no one from the time frame that I applied in has yet either). I've kind of given up on worrying about it so much lately (even though it's not far from my mind). It will come when it comes. I'm guessing that that will be really soon though.

i know im not alexandre and i am oinly a hs student but i believe that is diff if ur only ina class of 36. i think if ur sagt scores and essay are strong and u sent ur app in recently or earlier than u still have a decent shot becaue college prep school is not ur avg. public high school

Pman, if you go to a good school, you do not have to be in the top 10% of your class. I was talking about students at average high schools. In top schools, even a student ranked out of the top 25% have a shot at top universities. I was ranked 7th in a class of 20 and I got into 4 Ivy League schools, Cal, Northwestern, Chicago, Michigan, Georgetown, Duke and Johns Hopkins. Your numbers are good enough, so do not worry.

I presume you are referring to direct-admit to the Business School as a freshman. U-M doesn't do that...yet. Under the current system, you apply to the Ross School of Business in your sophomore year; and enroll in your junior year. I believe that starting this year(?), U-M is expanding the business program to 3-years...that is, you apply during your freshman year, and enroll in your sophmore year. This way you are not stuck with taking all business core courses in your junior year.

Understand that U-M will start to direct-admit freshman to the Ross School in the near future...but I don't think it is this year, probably in '06. U-M will only direct-admit a few exceptional candidates (70 was the number I heard at the info session too).

my apologies... the previous mail was meant for Plmok.

Alexandre, are you interested in becoming a U-M Alumni Student Recruiter in Dubai? It's a way to give back to your alma mata... also helps the local students who want to apply to U-M. E-mail me if you are interested.

GoBlue, I would be very interested in starting a Michigan Alum chapter in the UAE. There has to be dozens of Michigan alums. Furthermore, there are many kids who would love to study at a school like Michigan but Michigan simplly does not market itself well in this area. I would love to further Michigan's presence in the region.

I would also talk to you about education consulting. I am thinking of opening my own practice in the UAE.

What's yours?

Let's take this offline. Please check your mailbox.

I know that I said that I was just going to let it come as it does. However, I'm starting to get really anxious again (especially since I know several people in my class who got their acceptances at the end of October - a long time ago). I'm to the point where I really can't wait much longer (I feel like screaming - I'm holding back though). I'm really hoping that they're going to send out the next batch this week.

I feel you Reeses. There is nothing that we can do but wait. It has been 7 weeks since you sent in your application and 6 weeks since they started processing, so it really isn't that late. You will most likely hear back from Michigan before Christmas. But screaming does make the pain more tolerable...so by all means, warn the members of your family present that you are going to your room and that you are going to srcream, and then proceed to do so in an orderly fashion! hehe

Alexandre, I tried to reply to your mail but it got bounced back twice (yesterday and today) with a warning message that delivery to your mailbox is delayed. I can send mail to other people from my account, so the problem may be at your end.

I will resend again tomorrow.

I received your email today GoBlue. Thank you. It was very informative. I will continue to pick your brain over time! hehe

Well guys, I wish all of you the best of luck with your admissions to University of Michigan. I was accepted Northwestern ED, so I won't be in Ann Arbor next year. Good luck!

Great news UC-Benz. Congratulations. Northwestern is an excellent University. I am sure you will have a great 4 years.

uc_benz - Congradulations about the Northwestern acceptance! I envy you so much right now! Hopefully, I will get similiar results in March (which, for me, is a really long time to wait). However, just in case that doesn't happen, I'm still hoping for a Michigan acceptance (since I woouldn't really mind ending up there if it turns out that way).

I got rejected ED from NU....I really hope to get into U. Mich

Congrats uc_benz and good luck next year. I wish I could have joined you 09 but I guess thats not happening
