alg 2 HONORS

So i was at lunch, this kid asks me out of no where, " What math class are you in?" I simply say, Algebra 2 honors. he saids HOLY ^ lol

Haha. Pretty much the same here. I signed up for 3 APs and everyone is like :O :O. They're afraid to even take one. I wanted to take more but couldn't because of scheduling problems.

my school isn't like that XD everyone is required to take at least 2 AP's in their sophmore year so honors doesn't scare anyone. Or I hope not...

most kids at my school aren't the kind of kids who you would ever see on cc (they don't really care much about getting good grades, except for a few ppl). i did alg 2 my freshman year with the juniors, and when ppl saw me in that class they're like "o. i thought you were a freshman." and i was like "yea, i am." and i got the same response that the op did. it got really annoying after awhile, because ppl were acting like i'm so smart i'm a prodigy. but really, i'm no smarter than half the ppl on here. my school is just dumb (i say that in the kindest possible way ;)).

Yep... I'm doing Algebra II also my Freshman year. (My first semester, what semester did you take it?)
Any way, I believe I'll be able to get honors credit because of some complicated things I don't want to waste your time explaining.

Ha, my school is smart, but the seniors and juniors were surprised in my pre-calc class that i was a freshman. Ha and i could pass of as a junior in my freshman year, so most did not know i was a freshman until like the last month. They kind of freaked. Well know there are freshman taking calc bc with me. urg. I was always the youngest now there are kids younger than me.

the way it works in my school is you take one math class per year, so i took it all 3 semesters. i can't double up on maths that are directly related to eachother (so i can't do precalc till junior year, but i doubled on geo and alg II freshman year).

There's a freshmen in my AP calc class..... lol. At our school, if you take alg. 2 honors freshmen year, you're not "special" and I would get so annoyed if people did what people did to the op. Taking precalc as a freshmen I don't think is that rare after this site lol.

i was surprised coming to this site that there are freshmen taking precalc, and even calc. nobody in my school could EVER fathom that concept. there is only one other freshman that took alg II with me. but as i said before, i don't go to the smartest school

Its weird but of the freshman taking pre cal in my class i think 7, only 1 was not athletic and a huge nerd. Weird, the rest of the guys you could never guess took such high classes.

well, my class of 50 students there were... at least 15 freshmen who took pre-calc in their freshman year. Some of them did take alg 2 and pre-calc in the same year though.

lol, alg 2 honors is commonplace at my school, but we're the best public hs in the county. now if you a soph taking calc 3 or something, then you'd get some strange reactions.

meh...many 9th graders at my school have taken calculus already and take multivariable calc. i go to an insane school though. I was personally one of those people btw.

I took alg 2/trig advfreshman year and I got similar reactions, lol, just enjoy it and try not to be discouraged by the rediculous members of cc. (multivariable calc 7th grade...)

when i took AP Physics B in my freshman year, i got a lot of that. it was pretty amusing at first.

Your high schools are that lenient on courses?

At mine the highest math a freshman is allowed to take is Algebra 1.

My school system isn't that great. The highest you can go in middle school is Algebra I, but a couple freshmen do Algebra II every year. There's nothing past AP Calculus, so there's really not that much of a point to finish it in sophomore year or something. It's pretty much unheard of to self-study AP's or to do precalc in freshman year or something. Most people just don't care about grades.

hey JB, wot does your school do if a middle schooler come in as a freshman already taken geo or alg 2, make him retake alg 1? I mean, in middle school i would basically go up to the high school that i got to know and take the math course there. Or do you middle schools also not allow to go ahead. Plus alg 1 as a freshman seems real low esp if forced. At the most u can get to is pre calc in h.s

i took algebra 2 honors freshman year...the class was a joke...easy A

Well, I was in a one of the 3 classes that were allowed to take Algebra 1 in 8th grade, but now they're getting rid of that option. The idea is to get rid of the Calculus class and just end with Precalc since that's all they can fit in the schedule with only 2 math teachers.

As far as transfer students, there really aren't any that have had courses at a higher level. I live in a rural area, and real life doesn't usually work like Green Acres.

Believe it or not, this is what rural high schools in the United States in 2007 are like.
