So I just got my first Honors Algebra II test back and I got a high D. We've already taken a quiz, which I received an F. I'm freaking out because I have near 100's in all my classes besides this class. I'm doubling up my math classes with Geometry (regular) and Algebra II (honors).

I get this next chapter. I think I'm doing good, but I also thought I'd do well on that test. I had a C in the class before this latest test so I'm most likely around a D in the class now. I'm really debating dropping the class and doing an elective instead. I don't want to drop into Algebra II regular because when senior year rolls around I will only be able to take Honors Calculus, which is useless because I might as well stay in Honors to get there.

Do you think I can bring it up to an A? I've already scheduled tutoring hours with a friend who is excelling in the class. I'm not being challenged enough in my Geometry class, but I'm tempted to drop Alg II to get an easy A elsewhere.

I’m kind of surprised that you are doing terribly in Algebra II, even if it is an Honors class. But then again, I’ve always preferred Algebra over Geometry and such.

Anyways…
Judging from your situation right now, I think you should drop it. Take that burden off your shoulders! I mean, unless you really need that class (depending on what you want to major in–or have you not thought about that yet?), you should take an elective that you’d “enjoy” or that is relevant to your major (or at least what you THINK you’ll want to do).

Just a little update, I’m probably going to drop it. I never like to give up, but I figured I could use the extra time to apply myself in other studies/EC’s.

So far we’ve been following our book. We’re just starting the second chapter and it’s mainly all about slope intercepts and the like. It’s all stuff I covered last year in Algebra I, but for some reason it’s way harder. Honestly, I shouldn’t have missed a lot from last year’s honors math. It seems like I have, though. Another student told me that if I’m getting D’s and F’s already, I should drop because it’s all review so far.

I would stay in if I though I could get a B, but currently that’s not looking plausible with a third test this week.

Exactly, the only difference for me is that they added word problems, which should be really easy.

It really disturbs me that I can’t comprehend things I should know. I just know on the last test I really tried hard, but received a D. I know it’ll be a blemish on my transcript, but I’ve had a pretty rough year and with putting more passion in EC’s, I hope admission officers will understand.
