<p>Earn a GPA above 3.7 in a rigorous program, rank well into the top 10% of your HS class, score above 740 on each section of the SAT, play a varsity sport or a musical instrument well, be a school leader, get good recommendations, and write good application essays. You might get in with less, but that’s about what it would take to stand out from the average applicant without any unusual “hooks”.</p>
