come on there are 10 campuses and all anyone ever talks about are Cal and Ucla. dont get me wrong these are top of the line schools. but not all of us want to transfer there. so im starting this thread for people to talk about the other UC's.

if you are looking to transfer:
-why that school?
-whats your major?
-any info about that school

and if you already got there:
-what was you're first semester like as a transfer? socially? and academically?
-would you pick the same school?

There’s only 9 campuses that u can transfer to, UCSF is a grad school, so it doesnt count on these forums. People talk about Cal and LA becuz they are the only ones u cant garuntee for urself, and they are the only ones that take the most work to get into, whereas all the others u can TAG and get in the highest being UCD - engineering 3.1 GPA. UCB and UCLA can never be certain which is why people talk about them so much, they are also teh most sought after UCs.

They talk about cal because on the latest world rankings they are third behind Harvard and Stanford, and UCLA is 13th. That’s just overall, not even talking about how every single department at cal is ranked in the top three in the world across the board. Check it out it’s on CC home page. I’m not talking about the US news rankings, those idiots include endowment as an academic advantage, which it is not.

hahahahaha mannnn, idk where u got those world ratings, but trust me they’re wrongg, UCB is ranked 21 in nation, how can it possibly be ranked number 3 in the world?

@vintij
There are other world rankings other than the ARWU (compiled by Shanghai Jiao Tong University). According to the QS world rankings UCLA outranks Cal. By their rankings, UCLA is 32nd in the world, Cal is 39th. Clearly not all world rankings are the same.

Furthermore, Cal is NOT ranked “top three in the world across the board” by ANY “reputable” ranking group, You’re such a Cal fanboy. I’ve noticed on other threads how you try to puff up Cal. Yes, it’s a great school, but don’t exaggerate. It’s sickening.

Additionally, financial resources only account for 10% of a college’s overall score according to USNWR. And let’s face it, $$$ pays for faculty, classrooms, labs, etc. Clearly the amount of $$$ a school has plays a role in academic quality. It’s not the only factor in determining academic quality, but it is reasonable to consider it a factor.

Rankings in general are such BS. How can schools move up and down 5+ places in one year? Did they REALLY improve that much? Did other schools REALLY degrade that much? Use some common sense!

@CalBear
Cal is 21st in the nation according to USNWR. Which IMO, is BS. Public universities like Cal, UCLA, UVA, UMich, and UNC are severely underrated by USNWR.

I didnt even apply to UCLA, i applied to Cal (TAP), UCSD (TAG), UCD (TAG), and UCSB (TAG).

i didnt apply to UCLA, becuase i dont think id be able to live in that area, i really just dont fit in at LA, and i hate the heat, like i mean HATEEEE.

I will always tell everyone that cal is 3rd in the world…It is in my heart. lol.
And yes…because of the holistic admission process, all of us who are teetering on the edge are more stressted/excited because we still have a chance!!!
Is it April yet?

its not just the heat, its the area as well. and for when i visited , BOTH times LA was hotter, maybe it was just those times, but it still really put me off to LA (even tho i was already fairly off LA) idk its just a personal thing, i dont like UCLA.

@logicwarrior- thats not exactly true. if the uc’s were “easy” to get into than everyone would be admitted. ive heard of people not getting into certain schools with pristine academic records. seems pretty bias to say just la and cal are the hard schools and the rest as easy peasy lemon squeezy? that is most certainly not right.

look up the TAG program, you can get guaranteed admission to any UC besides Cal and LA with a 3.0 from a california community college. i am right.

Though many of Cal’s and UCLA’s majors are pretty easy to transfer into as well. Although it’s not true for a select few majors like business or engineering, many majors have transfer acceptance rates above 40%. Furthermore both schools offer TAP programs which pretty much guarantees one admission. It is not 100% like TAG, but it’s pretty darn close!
