hahahah… for sure. Idk about him… he says he self studied like 5 AP’s last year AND taking 6 next year… HE IS A SOPHOMORE! I think either he’s full of crap, or he may well be the next Einstein. IMO.

Why the **** do people take that many? Seriously, GET LIVES PEOPLE! That is RIDICULOUS as a sophomore! You only get out of so many classes, then they just become extra credit hours that don’t really mean anything. I don’t understand. I’m taking a lot of APs, but as a junior and senior!

^Nah just a skinny Asian from Minnesota

Good because I AM the next einstein… duh!!(?) Jk…

^lol XD

HAHA, Asians are awesome. Way to fill the stereotype… haha, no j/k. You’re doing good. Try to do something though other than studying…

“skinny Asian from Minnesota”
HAHAHAHAHA, I love it. That’s awesome.

The best advice I can give to rising freshmen: don’t act like your too cool.

those freshmen are incredibly annoying and nobody will like you.

^^ haha, soooo true…

When I think back to freshman year I think of how I had so much free time but I never realized it. Enjoy your first year of high school, before school and college stuff take over your life.

^^ also agree… oh, and I love your name “secret asian man”, hahaha, it really made me laugh the first time I read it.

Secret Asian Man - Yeah…when I think about it, I’m pretty ashamed I didn’t get straight As freshman year…so many hours spent playing games xD.

this advice to freshies is legit

I dont like the op…

Don’t take BS electives if you can take core classes instead.
no. I like art >.>

Attempt to test-out of all the pre-reqs you can for AP classes.
why so serious?

Take AP classes when available, and College classes when available.
do remember that ap>cc classes

Take honors if AP/College is not available.
err, thank you captain obivious

Band/Choir are the only legit non honors/AP electives.
what about art? or photo? >.>

Don’t stress about your schedule, you’re a freshman.
indeed, stop worrying and go hang out with friends

Keep your grades up and work on testing out/skipping AP pre-reqs.
u heard that kids? do your homework

Make sure your sophomore schedule is full of AP courses.
do note that some schools have no AP courses AT ALL

I agree with Secret Asian Man, freshman year was a breeze compared to sophomore and junior year. I had a 3.97 GPA and first honors throughout freshman year. To be honest, I maybe had like 1-2 hours of homework every night unless there was a project or something, but that’s it. No worrying about college applications or if my SAT score is good enough. Those were the good times…

Yea. If you go into freshman year like it’s the biggest thing in the world, you’re really going to miss out on a potentially great experience. Seriously, it’s no big deal. Most schools make every single student have the exact same schedule (with the exception of one or two honors, and electives).

Join some clubs, make new friends, and just make sure you don’t screw up your academics in your easiest year of high school, but don’t hole up in a corner self-studying 5 APs at lunch either.

You guys are probably annoyed with people tell you, “You’re just a freshman”, but it’s totally true. Relax people :]

^ yepp just a freshmen… lol. True!

I wonder how many freshies are actually reading this…

HAHA. I was wondering the exact same thing while writing my other post…

We probably scared them all off :]

Well, I am going to be a sophomore. The biggest mistake I did was to take Accelerated Math and to have all honors and one AP course (Human Geo). I would take it easy freshman year and to not kill yourself. I ended up getting two D’s in math and my guidance counselor wouldn’t let me drop down and I’m pretty much stunk. Also, I would study every single night and always do your homework. My parents thought my class load was crazy and I thought they were kidding! Also, take some fun electives and try to take a foreign language all four years. I’m taking one next year, lol. I also took Theater, so I had at least one easy A. Good Luck and I doubt there are many of you out there. I found CC in Feb.

I took 5 honors classes in 9th grade. I didn’t study. It was easy.

The best moment was every now and then walking into World History, being told to my surprise that we were having a test and still acing it.

Seriously. 9th grade is easy.

Like early_college said, freshmen shouldn’t overload themselves, and I’m afraid that I might with my schedule (I’m skipping a year of French and taking trig as a freshman, all honors). Of course, I will be able to drop levels, and I’m wondering if you guys would suggest a lighter schedule. I’m also seriously considering picking up honors Latin or Italian, which will mean six classes and gym in the summer. My school is super competitive and a well respected public school.

Thanks! :)

Well, it really depends on how quickly you can work, as in how much of your time is spent on what others consider a “heavy workload.” A bunch of my friends got scared off of taking too many honors classes freshman year by counselors who claimed that every honors class requires forty-five minutes of homework a night, except in all honors classes I still had about thirty minutes of homework a night, but that’s only because I’m freakishly efficient. If you’re concerned, talk to some of the people at your school (usually not the counselors - I’m in a competitive public school too, and counselors have little time for actual counseling - the students preferably and if not the teachers) about how much time each class actually requires.

But just going off what you said, tread carefully. Take a little lighter workload.
