I am creating this thread to ask whatever questions I face till I complete my admission procedure to SCA. I am tired of making different threads for each question. :P

This is my first question:

In Cinematic Arts Supplemental Materials, it is written:
Visual Sample (choose one) (Please submit via the "Media" section) Please submit one of the two visual samples. It is essential that you specify what role(s) you have played in your visual sample.

Where do I specify what role(s) I have played in your visual sample? I am editing the video so I wanna know if I need to know if I have to add it as credits or I have to type it in the application?

ok no need to answer. i got it.

Guys, when do the admissions for USC SCA BFA commence? I got the deadline which is Dec 1 but cant find beginning. Can you give me link to page if it is on USC site. Plz help.

It starts when the Common App for this coming year goes live. USC is on the common app and SCA is a supplement on that application. So create an account and do the application there.

Common App 14-15 opens August 1st.

thanks guys. i’d already opened an account but could not find any date there, so i asked.

whenever i search for minimum gpa required for SCA I am redirected to some stark program. I want to know gpa required for SCA BFA. Is there a minimum? Are gpas from 9-12 grade considered or just that of the 12th grade?

My gpa is pretty good but in 11th grade due to some circumstances, it is low. Will it affect too much? I am sure I will get good gpa in 12th.

And last of all, I am an Indian student, and the scores are in percentages here. Can sum1 tell me how to convert to gpa for USC? I found very varied calculation methods on the net. Some say below 60%=0 gpa. others say 60%=3 gpa. confused. helf.

Ahh the account you already created is for Common App 13-14. It’ll be deleted tomorrow, so make sure to save any essays on a separate file.

Usually, for the GPA:

90-100% = 4.0
80-89% = 3.0
70-79% = 2.0
60-69% = 1.0
Anything below 60 = 0

Some systems will weight plus or minuses (A- vs A+ for example) differently, though. Isn’t there someone at your school in charge of these conversions for students applying overseas?

hmm… hmm… i dont think there is sum1 to tell about the conversions in school. thnx guys.

^ I just checked the Common App…Entering the GPA itself isn’t mandatory. I didn’t enter it myself; it was on the transcript. An officer from your school, if you don’t have a counselor, has to upload your transcripts/grades when you apply. USC will see the grades and make the GPA conversion themselves as they see fit.

EDIT

It lets you change the scale to 100 -scroll all the way down on the “GPA scale” box. Just enter your grade avg as it is (out of a 100) when you get a real account.

thanks you a lot for the details and trouble you took. btw r u a student 2? which major or whatever it is called?

@Srkukali - there IS NO MINIMUM GPA for Cinematic Arts. There is NO MINIMUM GPA for USC. Only ranges. Some get in with higher GPA’s. Some get in with lower GPA’s than what is advertised on the USC admissions page. You can’t change what is already done - so don’t worry so much about the minimums. Just post your actual results and let the process work the way it was intended. They’re looking for interesting people, not a cookie-cutter list of grades and scores.

@Srkukali No problem. I’m an incoming freshman lol

you’ve got to be my favorite person here @ArtsandLetters ur replies always are the best.

@Lilliana330 it is good to know that you are an incoming too.

@Srkukali Ohh I think you might be confused…I’m not applying this year…I applied & was admitted this past app season. I’ve just stuck around CC cause it’s kinda addictive lol

oh k. you r right about it being addictive. never thought I’d find a college forum addictive. my fb friends will laugh their heads off if they know. :(|)

It is my understanding over the years the USC School of Cinematic Arts is looking for students with fine grades and scores who are able to succeed in college classes. However, there are other qualities they hope to find in an applicant such as originality, creativity, imaginative, ingenious, visionary, inventive and insightful. It has been posted here the ability to express your own passion and “tell a story” appear to be important in the selection process.

Good luck.

I was just reading this: http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/firstyear/prospective/interviews.html

Previously I’d read somewhere that you have to give interviews if u get a scholarship or when u r selected. But I dont understand what the above page is for. it says optional but it also says. “All admission interviews are evaluated in the same way and you may schedule only ONE interview.”

Can anyone tell me what the above page is for?

Means you can request an admission interview if you want one/think it’d be a plus, but it’s not required. Scholarship interviews are separate/assigned to scholarship finalists only.

whats the use? how does it help with the admission chances? dont people get interviewed personally or via skype when they are being considered for admission? how is this different?
