I don’t understand the option NYU Tisch gives for “all studios” vs “musical theatre only studio”. The website provides a brief description, but its not enough info.
Hi @skylarmt - all NYU applicants for MT are considered for the MT Studio (New Studio on Broadway). If they don’t make the admit group for NSB and they check the “all studios” they will still be considered for admission to NYU-Tisch and placed in another Drama studio. If you check “MT only” then not getting admitted to NSB means you won’t get into Tisch at all. Most people check “all studios” for that reason. It doesn’t hurt your chances. But if you truly only want MT, that’s always an option.
FYI, NYU has around 250-300 Drama students total per class and 60 of those are in NSB.
Just adding a comment here since the above information is now outdated. NYU changed their process in 2019 so studio assignments are not sent out until after the May 1 commitment deadline. That substantially changes the risk involved in deciding whether to check “All Studios”. If you check “MT only” you will know when you are admitted that it is to the MT studio (NSB). If you check " All Studios" you need to commit to go to NYU before you know if it’s for Acting or MT.
