I am not too happy about the result, but the Chiefs did a brilliant job of running out the clock. They were both great teams, but the Chiefs were just a bit better at the end.
I have zero doubt that if the situation were reversed, Sirianni would have done exactly the same thing rather than give the ball to Mahomes with almost 2 minutes left on the clock.
It may be disappointing to the other side when a team runs down the clock, but it’s just smart football IMO.
I agree. It’s a hole in the sport that every team probably would have exploited. Which is unfortunate for fans like me.
Don’t hate the player, hate the game……
I find nothing wrong with the end of the game strategy. Smartly played by the Chiefs.
As for the halftime show, generally I don’t pay much attention to them. I get my dinner, with the rest of the guests and talk to people while I eat.
The part that I don’t like is that people everywhere are criticizing the artist for being overweight (yes, she’s pregnant I guess), or performing while she’s pregnant, the clothes she’s wearing, etc. It happened at the party I attended last night too. And it was all over social media.
That’s the part that I don’t like about the halftime show.
I loved the show. Visually - your eye was just drawn to her. The colors, the lights, the floating platforms- spectacular. The mix of her hits, the high fashion. I love her confidence.
I went to bed before the game was over, fully expecting the Eagles to win. Sounds like I should have stayed up, but I didn’t have any skin in the game.
That’s interesting because my kids told me that compared to previous super bowl years, there was very little criticism of Rihanna’s appearance or show on social media.
At the super bowl party I attended only my crab of a MIL had anything negative to say about Rihanna.
I didn’t see the ASL accompaniment to the half time show last night but read about it today and it is fun to watch the deaf performer. She is amazing.
The Travolta / Scrubs Bromance commercial was my fave too! I was a big fan of Scrubs (minus the last couple seasons when it jumped the shark) and introduced it to my premed kid last year. It is fun knowing that JD & Turk are real-life best buds They have had some awesome social media posts (amusing and thought-provoking) and a podcast over the years.
We aren’t big NFL fans (as far as I was concerned the football championship was done with UGA’s win LOL), but we tuned in for the halftime show and watched the last half of the game since it was close. We had no skin in the game but kudos to both teams for giving us an exciting game to watch.
Thanks for sharing the interpreter video - Wowser!
Does it seem like Rhiannon was lip syncing at least some of the time? Is that normal for these shows?
The singing is always prerecorded. Including the national anthem from what I’ve read. To make sure no sound snafus since it’s live and such a big audience.
I wish the referee who made the holding call at the end of the game had shown more restraint. Yes, I agree the defender did grab his jersey for a fraction of a second and impede the receiver slightly. I know he graciously accepted responsibility for it after the game, too. But I also watch enough football to know it’s the kind of minor infraction that is ignored about 50% of the time. The ref had to know that if he threw the flag he was handing the Super Bowl to the Chiefs. It was too good of a game to be decided that way, IMHO. I would have preferred to see if the Eagles could drive into field goal range with a minute and a half left and one timeout and potentially send it to overtime. Then it really would have been a game to remember. I just felt like we were deprived of that chance. If he was going to throw a flag there, I think the hold should have been more egregious than that.
Yes. These huge stadiums present pretty serious issues for live performances. Considered the greatest Super Bowl National Anthem by many, Whitney Houston’s performance was pre-recorded. I’m betting most, if not all, are also pre-recorded. Doesn’t mean the artist is not up to the quality of the recording, simply that trying to pull this off in a venue of that size is not practical.
Exactly. Officiating in the NFL is so arbitrary. To make this call at such a pivotal moment was just plain ridiculous.
It’s a pre recorded track, but an artist can sing over it as much or as little as they want. And Chris Stapleton was definitely playing the guitar.
The ASL interpreter for the National Anthem was the Oscar winning actor from Coda (a wonderful movie).
For those who missed some of the ads, here is a link that has the better ones:
I thought it was a very weak year for super bowl ads.
Agree. Pretty weak.
I also agree. I miss the Clydesdales. And there were too many inside jokes.
