I don’t watch football but I was kept apprized of the Chief’s progress by the fireworks that went off every time they scored and of course by the huge 20 minute barrage at the end.
Re the commercials, they used to stand alone - you could appreciate them on their own. Nowadays, if you’re not familiar with the actors, celebrities, and spoofed shows, you could miss much of the humor. I’m familiar with Clueless so could appreciate the Alicia Silverstone spoof. My husband’s familiar with Caddyshack so could appreciate the Serena Williams spoof. I know who Jennifer Coolidge is but my husband was, well, clueless. I know why it’s funny that Bradley Cooper was with his very charming mother.
The Chiefs could have gone for a touchdown. The field goal wasn’t forced - it was a strategic decision. And teams should have this option IMO.
I heard that the red coat Rhinna wore was André Leon Talley’s who recently passed away. Very nice tribute.
I loved the national anthem. So understated and touching! Seeing the Eagles coach crying during it was something. I still remember Whitney Houston’s version many years ago. So different but touching as well.
I thought it was a great game and was happy with the outcome (though the rest of my family was rooting for the Eagles). We stayed traditional and made wings, nachos, and sausage sliders. Ice cream for dessert.
I’m not a big football fan, but I think this was a fabulous game between two very very good teams. They were well matched and the back and forth scoring was just so exciting.
I like these types of games far more than the ones where one team just slams the other.
I just wish they would start the dang game earlier! Kickoff not until 6:45pm EST. I realize this is not a problem for other time zones but even a 6pm kickoff would be helpful.
Couldn’t root for the Eagles because Giants fan. Love Mahomes because of his Mets connections. In fact, not to go all baseball here, but this was a very Mets game–Mahomes of course, then Kevin Burkhardt is local to my area and former Mets announcer, cute Mets commercial, plus Rhianna is a big Mets fan.
Play ball! (football is just a bridge to the baseball season for me!)
The kickoff was actually scheduled for 6:30pm EST yesterday. May have been a few minutes later than that, but i definitely don’t recall it being 7:45?
I definitely look at the clock at kick off! 6:45 here! (now I see I made a typing error above, not 7:45 - lol!)
We were listening on the radio…in the car. Honestly the commentator Blah blah blah was needed to know what was going on…but really the way they do it is…annoying.
Got to see the final (exciting) quarter at home.
Both teams had great seasons.
I’m sad. The depression here in Philly is real. But the fans will welcome our team home with cheers and love. A great season, a great effort, but we didn’t play the better game.
Rihanna was on fire! Excellent performance and another baby on the way.
Great game! Would have enjoyed a Philly win, but still what a great game!! And RiRi was exceptional!
Best national anthem since Whitney.
Rihanna was great. I didn’t care for all of the side dancers. Rihanna is/was the show.
Great game. I understand the strategy at the end, but kneeling before scoring a touchdown is a hole in the spirit of sport. It’s like drawing a foul in basketball (yay, free throws!), or the intentional walk in baseball (“too bad, we’re not letting you watch the superstar you wanted to watch”). How you play the game still counts, at least in my book.
Chiefs’ Kelce proved again that he has no class, following up his antics after the Bengals game with pointed insults after this game.
This reminds me of the second Giants/Patriots SB, where the Patriots purposely let Ahmad Bradshaw get to the end zone, he tried not to score, but lost his footing and fell into the touchdown (and they held off a New England score despite giving them the extra time.)
Both teams were playing the strategy–Giant trying not to score, Patriots luring him into scoring. It’s part of the chess moves of the game, and I think it’s fine.
The National anthem , in my opinion, was the best performance in many years. Rihanna‘s performance was nice and it was very nice pregnancy reviling ceremony. Although I could do without her touching her private parts during the performance but I guess the crowd likes these type of things.
I enjoyed seeing Rihanna seeming so relaxed and in command during her show. Sometimes the Super Bowl performers (thinking Lady Gaga & Justin Timberlake among others) are just trying so hard and (naturally) nervous. She just seemed calm and enjoying it all, even while floating above the huge crowd.
At one point that thing she was airborne on looked like it went crooked - freaked me out!!
I thought that the halftime production was amazing. Better than the music and singing IMO.
I know, I’m in the minority. Alls good.
