Thank you, dstark.

I remember when that story came out and thinking “good for you!” that the woman pressed charges. Apparently his apology letter stirred up all the old trauma for her. She is lucky that Virginia has no statute of limitations on rape.

It reminds me of the case of Savannah Dietrich, who was threatened with a contempt of court charge because she named her accusers, and they had pled guilty!

Greenwitch , Wow! Thanks for that link.

This link is even better. So many victims are shamed into silence and don’t even admit to themselves what has happened, in order to protect themselves. How satisfying to meet the firestorm of fury that is Ms. Dietrich!

In the Savannah Dietrich case:

I hate it when fine upstanding rapists whine that victims who report their crimes are ruining the lives of their rapists. And I hate it even more when judges go easy on young rapists because they are high SES and heading to college.

Recent campus gang rape in a dorm.

Uhm, something new.

“Will Dana, Rolling Stone’s managing editor, also released a statement with new doubt. “In the face of new information, there now appear to be discrepancies in Jackie’s account, and we have come to the conclusion that our trust in her was misplaced,” he said in a statement.”

Oh boy…

Thanks for the link Marie1234.

I think they ran with what would sell - their embellishments - and are now trying to push Jackie under the bus. I don’t care for that at all.

Yeah, Rolling Stone drags UVa through the mud , singling it out in what should have been a national convervsation about an important issue. Jackie may or not have suffered trauma at UVa but RS had an obligation to get the facts substantiated before publishing this article.

It is a good thing names weren’t divulged.

Wow and I was skewered for being skeptical.

Names weren’t divulged but there was some identifying information particularly of Drew. He could end up owning RS.

There is no Drew.

You were right, TatinG.

“It’s a good thing names weren’t divulged.” A university was divulged, a particular fraternity was divulged , names of k kids in that fraternity have been divulged. I hope Rolling Stone has some good lawyers.

The story was not properly vetted and was far too sensationalistic and oddly composed not to raise questions. This was so easy to see coming. And, yeah drew is probably a composite character.

There are rapes going on at UVA or there are a lot of liars at UVA.

I wonder if Phi Psi has a cause of action for libel. The article basically accused half of those who lived there of being gang rapists. I hope the retraction gets as much publicity as the original story.

<a href=“Rolling Stone apologizes for 'discrepancies' in UVA rape story”>Rolling Stone apologizes for 'discrepancies' in UVA rape story;

There are rapes going on everywhere. That’s the conversation that needs to happen - how to help victims of sexual assault, number one, and how to prosecute perpetrators of sexual assault with sensitivity to the victim.
