SLS Week One 2nd Platoon 3rd Squad "Ch.3"

I received my LOA in November and my nomination in the mail officially today from my Congresswoman. Was very happy hear, like everyone else here. Didnt apply anywhere else. I'm looking forward to seeing you guys on R-Day.

Hey, Mumford, glad to hear from another SLS person. I was in with 1st Squad, 1st Platoon. I can't help but feel good about that week.

Mumford,

Congratulations to you. It was a very gutsy move deciding not to apply to any other schools.

I received my appointment in the mail on Christmas Eve. What a great Christmas present!

How often (percentage or number) do candidates who show up at Beast get SENT back home? I'm just curious because a lot of the candidates probably turned down some excellent choices in civilian schools. If someone is sent back home for a medical reason, can he or she reapply next year? Can he or she enlist that year (or would the medical reason still be DQing)? Finally, is this the reason that many (?) students put a deposit into the school of their choice?

One last note: Who else applied to USNA? Did you notice how slow USNA's admissions process is compared to USMA's? It makes USMA look a lot better. However, the Marines...USNA. Better leadership...USMA. I gotta think still.

MomofTwins: I know it was gutsy, but I was going to enlist if I didnt get it. What can I say, I wanted the Army...

dictoranna--

to answer your ? about USNA's admissions process for me it was a lot faster than West Point's. I submitted my CFA (the last of my paperwork) on Oct. 31 and my appointment letter was dated Nov. 10. As for USMA I completed my paperwork in mid Oct. and have not heard anything back. It's really which academy wants you more will answer first.

Congrats on your appoinment! I think USMA doe look better compared to USAFA and USNA, more history and just better (in my opinion).

Guy4christ: when do u turn 17? cuz i thought u had to be at least 17 to apply to USMA?!

I got an LOA on 6 September, and a nom. from my senator about 2 weeks ago.

I received my loa on 21 September and my appointment on 02 December. I was also in sls, 3rd platoon 4th squad week 1

I am also applying to usna. All my paperwork was in 21 December. My nomination was uploaded the same day. Hopefully I hear in the next month or so. If I heard before feb I would be pretty happy and it would make a tough choice USMA or USNA. If I hear later than march I probably wont go even if I do get accepted. Kinda spoiled but hey that would be a whole 5 months after usma's appt.

hey,

I was in week 1 (June 4-10)

1st of the 3rd

Fruitflies: BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Squad Festivus: for the rest of us!!!

There were some crazy ultimate frisbee games, camp buckner was also fun.

yuppers 3rd platoon was the greatest...especially us fruitflies. My favorite day was buckner. Also kinda weird...anyone remember the old sergent who brought out a mat and started break dancing? Totally unexpected at buckner.

The guys breakdancing was ridiculous...such a fun day. Paratroopers were good guys, all I have to say is.......

WE'RE KIND OF A BIG DEAL!!

What's going to happen when we run into our old Squad leaders next year? I bet we get chewed out harder than from some of the other upperclassmen.

yeah yeah....fruitflies were annoying!!!! all i have to say is:

IT'S MILLER TIME :)

Anyone that can break dance in BDU's has my respect. Is there anyone from 1st platoon out there? I seem to recall a Sgt. Miller in 1st platoon, MegBee 1119. You may remember my squad (1st); we were the ones playing hockey in the hallway with the rolling chairs, brooms, and a soap box.

jq,

I believe it was a Captain who started to breakdance initially. But minor details...

Before buckner, the MREs would have been more enjoyable if we had time to actually eat them. Other than that, it was awsome.

The best was definetly the howitzer demostration/ lanyard pull.

I can still smell it!!!

hahaha i remember that yall! and thanks for the correction- i pretty much took a wild guess on which platoon i was in...all i remembered was 4th squad :) the howitzer demo was awesome i agree!
meg

captain..hmmm than thats even weirder. Was all of 3rd platoon fruitflies or just my squad? My memory is not the best. ;) Yea that howitzer demo wa pretty awesome. Either they were blanks, or we wiped out lots of forest that day. It was some hot there though...inside the buses it was hotter than it was outside. Anyway good times....good luck to all who are still waiting for appts, nominations or even sls 2006 acceptances.

I recieved an LOA on Nov 21 and a nomination from my senator about two weeks ago
