Hello,
I am a freshman who has recently returned from winter break back to college and have been having what seems like allergic reactions in my eyes. My eyes have been red for the past two weeks, sometimes more red than others. In the beginning, I thought this was because of my eye contacts. So I stopped wearing them for a while. However, even when I take my glasses off, my eyes still happen to be red (not as intensely as they get with contacts but definitely still there). I have noticed that this issue usually occurs when I spend too much time in my dorm room, specifically in/near my bed, as I will wake up with red eyes as well. I’ve been taking red eye drops but whenever I’m in my dorm room for extended periods of time my eyes return to being red. Does anyone know if this could be a signal of some unsanitary dorm room conditions? My roomates have not experienced such symptoms, and its only been happening to me since after winter break. My eyes dont hurt but I am concerned because this has never happened to me before in my life and now I have to carry drops with me everywhere, not wear contacts, etc, and I dont know why. Any suggestions or input would be appreciated. Thanks!
Go to your campus medical office. Or, move your bed a way from the radiator if it’s too close to it. Could be your eyes don’t like the excessive heat used in dorms.
I’d suggest seeing a doctor as well. And stop using the “get the red out” eye drops before you go in to see the doc, so they can see your eyes without the masking effect of the eye drops.
This wouldn’t normally be due to unsanitary conditions in your room. It could be allergies, or an eye infection, or dry eye. A doc can tell you.
Maybe first get tested for which type of allergies you have.
Could be:
Dust Mites - try getting a plastic mattress cover and one for your pillow and wash your sheets and blanket
Pets- either your roommate has a pet at home and has accidently brought pet hair back with them or somebody has a pet in school
Detergent: are you using a different detergent/shampoo/lotion ? get a scent free one
Anybody juuling or vaping in the room?
every now and then yes… but theyve done it since the beginning of the year, doesnt explain why i just started having allergies recently
Really should go to the health center and maybe an eye doctor.
