Almost everyone will get in December 24th?

I heard that if you did not get accepted December 3rd you would most likely get accepted December 24th. I heard this from U of M live chat and an admissions representative who visited my school and also many of my counselors and friends said this is what happened last year.

Is this true?

Here are my stats and I've heard nothing yet.

I have a question about the validity of this statement. I talked online and called the UM admissions council and they said they would release no more decisions until December 24th. I applied October 30th (postmark date). My scores and transcript got delayed but they said I still made early action. However, the guy I was talking to the phone said I would have had to have applied really late and had a horrible GPA and test average to get rejected on December 24th. He said that it's Christmas Eve and UofM tries to send as many acceptances as possible. Does this mean if I haven't gotten an acceptance that I'm in.

Here are my stats:

GPA: 3.70 (Unweighted)
ACT: 31
SAT I: 1890
School: Rochester Adams High School
Sports: None
Extra curriculars: I volunteer 20 hours at Troy Beaumont on Thursday (3 hr/week)
Chess Club (not very consistent)
Ping Pong Club(not very consistent)
Anime Club (not very consistent)
AP: Chem (2) Bio (5) AP Calc BC (3) AP Physics (3)
I did very badly sophomore year
My essays were alright.
So far I've heard nothing

No. It would mean that IF you’re accepted, that would be when they’d be telling you, I suspect. It cannot possibly mean that anyone who hasn’t heard is in. Even if they’re only going to release positive outcomes on xmas eve, that still gives them two weeks to issue additional deferrals first. Rejections at this point are highly unlikely, because the RD deadline has not passed. That said, there always seem to be a few clear cut cases early on.

Yeah - what kmc said
If you still haven’t heard anything a couple days before the 24th, I’d have high hopes. They can’t be mean enough to defer/reject people right before/on the holidays! There’s still plenty of time to get a deferral/rejection before then though

I have contacted them again, as we speak, (luckily I got a different person this time)
and this is what they said (I feel bad because I keep on telling them to hold on for a second.)

This lady’s name is Lindsey:

I ask:
What is the admissions % of the incoming 2014 class currently?
She says:
I do not know that information and I do not think I could tell you if I did.
I ask:
I have a 3.7 and a 31 ACT, good essays and extra curriculars, what do you think will happen to my admissions decisions, I applied October 30th.
She says:
Again sir, I can not give you such information and I do not know.
I ask:
When can I check my UofM Wolverine Access or what dates are you releasing decisions?
She says: I am not sure, there are likely to be 2-3 more big waves of decisions. Also frequently there will be admissions decisions made for an individual here and there.
I ask:
Could I get the specific dates ma’am.
She says:
I do not know and if I did I probably would not be able to tell you.
I say:
Lindsey, look U of M is my life, it’s the school I really want to go to, can you help me out here. How many more dates are there and likely am I to getting accepted.
She says:
What is your current high school and unweighted GPA and ACT?
I say: 3.7 and 31, Rochester Adams high school
She asks:
Do you take any APs?
I say:
I passed Bio and Calc BC.
She says:
I am not in charge of decisions. We do not tell people these things often because we are not the ones who are making the decisions. From what I have heard there will be decisions made Thursday the 17th (maybe) and Friday (18th) many of them being deferrals. The final day will be December 24th and if you are still waiting by then with your academic qualifications I would be very surprised if you did not get in.
I say:
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
She says:
No problem, is there anything else I can help you with.
I say:
That will be all ma’am

… line shut

Lol sorry for being a skeptic, but the above conversation seems really fake to me.

Isn’t the live chat closed until Monday?

You seem to be posting a lot of contradictions…

Live Chat was a while ago…this is me calling the office

office is also closed on weekends…

The admissions office is also closed on Saturdays. And you’re case isn’t exactly clear cut, as your GPA is about .1 below their average, you have only taken two APs, and your ECs are less than great. I am having trouble believing any of this.

This guy is such a ■■■■■. A 3.7 GPA is anything but a clear admit. There have been kids with 3.95’s and 2310 SAT’s that have been deferred and then waitlisted (in previous years) from my school. Granted, my school is OOS, but a 3.7 with only 2 AP’s (honestly…that’s almost nothing) and a 31 ACT for a school like UMich seems like anything but a lock. That along with all the contradictions he’s espousing make him seem more likely to be a ■■■■■. Granted, though, the Dec. 24th thing may indeed be correct as rejecting students on the day before Christmas would be such a bi*** move.

^ Yeah besides, they wouldn’t just ask “How many AP courses did you take?”. Other courses (honors, IB) also determine rigor. Also, I doubt someone from U of M would ever ask you for your stats. They just want your UM ID and all of your info will be there.

Don’t be trollin’…

It sounds like the phone might have been answered by the cleaning lady…

^LOL! (abc)

LOL this guy is hilarious… u try wayyy too hard lol
