Almost perfect grades but.....

MY SAT2 Math2C 800 Physics 770
My GPA is 3.8 out of 4 and course load is second to the most difficult course load people have taken in school
I have 12 GCE O LEVEL A grades, which means 90% above. The grades are perfect in case you are not familiar with the system
I have 3 AS Level A grades and a B in Physics at 88%-- AS LEVEL is equal to AP i guess
I am going to give one more AS and 4 Alevels
Predicted grades are all A's i suppose
I have an excellent high school record--almost all A's
Our school is very reputable amongst US colleges and is arguably the best school in the country

Excellent Recommendations: two teachers and one employer
And i am sure ill write very good Essays

IS Wharton out of reach? Chance me realistically

Thank you

Good marks,
SAT's are sub-par.
I assume you are south-asian (brown-skinned) and not oriental (i mean no offense by this) which is better as many orientals apply...

The problem is there are many people from your area applying with superior credentials... You have a better than average chance, but still i'd say you are looking about a 25% chance of getting in.

25% sounds decent. its more than the acceptance rate.
Honestly, not to boast but in terms of grades i would be top 10% of my country, but the problem is that people in our school are the best in the country. And competing against them is really hard. And the god damn problem is that students from the same school are compared more carefully. I wish i was in another easier school

I forgot to mention that i can only pay 25000 dollars and that would place me in a more competitive applicant pool of financial aid. how badly would that affect my chance. most people in my school are applying for a bit more aid though. would that have a significant affect on whose taken in and whose not?
I would be more that happy for a 25 percent chance. i myself think its lesser

ANother not so important point is that i am a first generation college student. will that have an affect if any at all?

Im sorry to be a cold realist, but your financial situation will definitely be a problem. You may be great, but there is probably someone more qualified asking for less money from your area. You shouldn't regret going to a hard school, if you went to a standard school you would have 0% chance...

Also, top 10% in country isn't so great, most people applying are in top 1-2% of USA. Valedictorians get rejected. The RD pool is very strong for Wharton, i think acceptance is less than 9% RD. So your chances are much less than 25%... I'd say you have the same odds as a typical candidate ~ 9%. Your stats are a bit better but you are ORM and international asking for a handsome sum of aid. Good luck though. Everyone here needs some!

You aren't out of reach. It is obviously worth applying. And 10% aren't such bad odds...

thanks dslek. Are you at Upenn right now? and hey if get like a 2100+ say something like a 750M 670R 700W. will that have a significant impact on my chance?

I have applied ED... I think I have good odds. I dont know how much SAT's are worth... I heard they just look to see if you are in a range. If you get at least 700 in each section you should be good... The average student has a 1420 CR+M (around)

i'm a British student who is applying to Penn ED, and I am taking A levels too. A levels are only really seen as equivalant to good AP scores if you get an A.
sorry.
