Alpha Kappa Psi

Does anyone have any information on the Alpha Kappa Psi chapter at Georgetown University? I've got a few questions:

Do you have live in a frat house?

Are there dues?

How selective is it?

Is there an overwhelming majority of white students (>80%)? No offense against white people, it would just be slightly intimidating to be the only Asian in the room.

Oh, and does joining really benefit a person from a career standpoint?

Only frat that has a house is Delta Phi Epsilon–professional foreign service frat founded at Georgetown–it is, however, not recognized by Georgetown b/c Georgetown doesn’t do frats.

It’s worth pointing out that Alpha Kappa Psi is co-ed and Delta Phi Epsilon has a sorority as well as fraternity.

I’m in AKPsi, so I’ll try and answer your questions.

 1. No frat house. It’s not like a normal “frat” in that sense
 2. Yes. I believe they are approx. $150. I think it is per semester.
 3. In the past it hasn’t been prohibitively selective; however, the chapter is growing (currently around 50 people), so I would imagine next year for it to more so.
 4. Interesting question. I would start out by saying that I’ve never even thought about it once, and would bet other people haven’t either, which just goes to show how much of a non-issue it is. But now that I do, I guess there are a majority of white people. Off the top of my head there are a few Asians, yet not a significant amount of diversity. On the same note, this would be a silly reason not to rush; you would most definitely not feel uncomfortable!
 5. AKPsi is what you make it, in terms of your career. I would say the most beneficial aspect of AKPsi for my future career is the networking and bonding with fellow brothers. But honestly, AKPsi’s professional aspect is nothing groundbreaking. In my mind the “professional benefits” are just a nice bi-product of the great social experience.

If the chapter is accepting more members, wouldn’t it become less selective?

I guess I should rephrase that. The chapter is relatively new. It hasn’t been very large in the past and thus the leadership has been eager for more members. During that time, it obviously wasn’t very selective. However, now that there are enough members, the chapter has gotten more selective and I would guess next year it will be harder to get in.
