Already accepted but a BIG PROBLEM, STRESSING, PLEASE HELP!

Hey everyone,

I received my University of Pittsburgh acceptance letter yesterday in the School of Arts and Science for Premed, and I was freaking out with joy till I realized my second quarter grades have gone down significantly compared to first quarter.

1st Quarter weighted GPA: 99.3654.
Second quarter will be around 83 or 84 at most which is a C in my schools grading system.

On top of that, I was in AP Calculus which I had to drop because I was failing cause I missed too many classes (morning class), but I dropped down to college prep (one level below AP) Calculus. Its not senioritis. I have been diagnosed with insomnia which has been an ongoing problem for the past 2 years and the college was notified of it through a counselor letter. BUT HOW BIG OF A PROBLEM IS THIS? Is it enough for them to retract their decision?

Now my dilemma and the cause of my stress.

The letter says "you have been accepted for admission to University of Pittsburgh" but it also says "Of course, this acceptance is provisional based upon continued satisfactory performance in your classes and graduation from high school; but, judging from your work to date, that task appears to be in very capable hands."

I'm killing myself this break to make sure I can somewhat make up for second quarter by getting high midterm grades.

But would they just retract the admission decision for the bad second quarter? Do they do that? Or would they send me a warning letter saying "Your second quarter have forced us to put you on hold, but you will be able to get in only if you do this and that for 3rd quarter and 4th quarter" and if I do it they will let me in. Is that how it works? Like is there a warning period or is it just, "Bad second quarter so we take back the decision?"

I am freaking out right now. This is my top choice. Please HELP by giving me some answers!

PLEASE, if you know the answer about how much of a problem dropping the class is and bad 2nd quarter grades, let me know.

Thank You for reading my ridiculously long post .

They won’t retract admission for weak second quarter grades, but will for bad final grades, so definitely raise your grades for the rest of the year. If you’re hovering around a “C” average now, unless you get your act together ASAP – you’ll be at “D” level by year’s end, and that would be a kiss of death for keeping your admission.

thank you for your feedback. I have started on a new treatment so my ability to attend morning classes will most likely improve so my grades shouldn’t slip for the rest of the year.
if anyone else know anything about this, please let me know.

bumppppppppp

Yeah, agree with what Northstarmom said. You’ve worked so how, just keep those grades up!

Ok I failed my final 1st semester class for calculus… Does that hurt my chances?? I mean that’s the only class out of all my 4 years I failed, that’s dumb to me if that one grade will determine if I should get accepted

I applied to 4 csu’s btw and 4 uc’s

but I really wanna go to san Diego state

and my sat score was 1500

bumppppppppppppp

OP your already accepted so chances of getting admission taken away is low but not unlikely. The school will see your 1st semester grades, but also second semester… this is all apart of final transcript. Simply do remarkable your second semester and all will probably be okay.

Well if the school sees your failing grade before making a acceptance than yes, that will likely become a determing factor upon your admission, may lead to a rejection… but I’am not too familier with the csu’s.

I wouldn’t stress too much about the entire “Of course, this acceptance is provisional based upon continued satisfactory performance in your classes and graduation from high school; but, judging from your work to date, that task appears to be in very capable hands.” Virtually ALL college letters say that. If you go from A’s to straight D-F’s for the rest of the year, yes, they will probably have a problem with that. But I highly doubt they would decline your acceptance because you had a sleeping disorder that you already notified them about. Follow Coolbreeze’s advice, and you should be fine.

They don’t ask for my senior grades until end of 2nd semester right? “final transcript” right?

nope, theres this lovely thing called a midyear report. sent in jan/feb, depending on your schools quarter or semester system.

Tulare, UCs (and I would imagine CSUs) require there to be no Ds or Fs for final grades.

there was a kid in my high school last year accepted into the University of Chicago, and totally slacked second semester with barely above a D in one of his classes. The admissions officer talked to him at orientation, but he still stayed there. I wouldn’t worry about it too much; raising your grades to around a B should be fine.

If a school requires a midyear report and your senior year grades reflect a D or an F, many schools will reject you. Schools will rescind admission for Ds or Fs on your final senior year transcript, something that all colleges request of accepted students who plan to attend their college.

okay so i have a problem… I am currently failing an AP art class, sadly enough…and I plan to go to st.Edwards university this coming fall…i am really worried that my acceptance will be declined beacuse of that grade, even though I am taking it as an elective. I have all the credits i need…I have high grades in all my other classes. but i wasnt sure if they will look down on that one grade. does anyone think that grade will pose as a threat?

Ask the school.
