Already accepted but a BIG PROBLEM, STRESSING, PLEASE HELP!

Hey everyone,

I received my Pitt acceptance letter yesterday in the School of Arts and Science for Premed, and I was freaking out with joy till I realized my second quarter grades have gone down significantly compared to first quarter.

1st Quarter weighted GPA: 99.3654.
Second quarter will be around 83 or 84 at most which is a C in my schools grading system.

On top of that, I was in AP Calculus which I had to drop because I was failing cause I missed too many classes (morning class), but I dropped down to college prep (one level below AP) Calculus. Its not senioritis. I have been diagnosed with insomnia which has been an ongoing problem for the past 2 years and the college was notified of it through a counselor letter. BUT HOW BIG OF A PROBLEM IS THIS? Is it enough for them to retract their decision?

Now my dilemma and the cause of my stress.

The letter says "you have been accepted for admission to University of Pittsburgh" but it also says "Of course, this acceptance is provisional based upon continued satisfactory performance in your classes and graduation from high school; but, judging from your work to date, that task appears to be in very capable hands."

I'm killing myself this break to make sure I can somewhat make up for second quarter by getting high midterm grades.

But would they just retract the admission decision for the bad second quarter? Do they do that? Or would they send me a warning letter saying "Your second quarter have forced us to put you on hold, but you will be able to get in only if you do this and that for 3rd quarter and 4th quarter" and if I do it they will let me in. Is that how it works? Like is there a warning period or is it just, "Bad second quarter so we take back the decision?"

I am freaking out right now. This is my top choice. Please HELP by giving me some answers!

PLEASE, if you know the answer about how much of a problem dropping the class is and bad 2nd quarter grades, let me know.

Thank You for reading my ridiculously long post :).

You’re probably fine. I think they mean if you REALLY let them slip (like D’s and F’s in almost every single class). You could send a letter or an email to OAFA explaining the drop from AP Calculus to college prep and the medical reason. What does your guidance counselor say about all of this? They may be able to communicate with Pitt about all of this too and explain the circumstances.

Anyone else have opinions on this? I would say you’re fine… just don’t let them slip any further below a C  enjoy the holidays!

thank you so much. I feel a bit relieved :).
If anyone else knows any more about this, please post.

You’re fine. As already stated, just don’t fail every class and keep your GPA above 3.0 and you should be golden.

What if I slack off and take just 3 credits next semester, think that’s a problem?

Pitt needs to see nothing else but your final transcript. As long as you stay within a reasonable range of your three year grades there will be no problem. It sounds like your counselor has contacted them about your insomnia problem and they should discuss any further difficulties with them. If Pitt is the school you want to go to, accept the offer of admission and pay your deposits asap.

I also would say you are fine. Like pinknpreppy216 said, unless you completely fall off the bandwagon, you should be good.

If it helps any, I knew a kid who to accepted to Penn and his GPA dropped from ~4.0 to about 3.3 and he’s going there now. So if Penn doesn’t care too much, I’m sure Pitt doesn’t lol
