Already accepted student worrying about senior year grades!

Hi,

About a month ago I was accepted into a college that I wish to attend and I am very excited about it. However, because I am taking 5 AP classes this year and an honors class out of which I have three science classes (AP Bio, AP Physics and Honors Chemistry) my predicted GPA for my 1st semester of senior year is going to be possibly as low as 3.12. I was accepted into the college with an overall GPA of 3.24 (that's because I had a 2.9 my freshman year but then I have had an average of 3.5 both my sophomore year and my junior year).

Considering that I'm taking all these challenging classes do you think this drop in GPA could still mean the possibility that the college might withdraw their offer?

I've heard that people lose their college acceptances because of low senior year grades... Any comments on my situation would be greatly appreciated!

I don’t think you should worry.

Just work hard and keep it up. You have your motivation. Make a goal for each class and work towards it. You will be fine. Good Luck!

So you think a small drop in GPA like that shouldn’t be a big issue considering the classes I’m taking?

I think it’s fine seeing as it’s obvious you’re challenging yourself by take all those AP classes, and since its APs they should be pretty forgiving on the GPA. Just try to keep above a 3.0

How selective is your college? Since you were accepted with a 3.24 it doesn’t sound like it is a super selective school.

But, try to get your grades up during the rest of the year. If your second semester grades increase again, then why would the school really care? Do you know if your college accepts kids with a 3.0? If so, then you should be fine. Do you know if your school reports semester grades or just “year-end” grades?

BTW…doesn’t you school “weigh” AP classes?

You should be just fine - as the previous posters have stated - it is not a big drop in GPA and you are taking very challenging courses. Students who run into trouble with having acceptances rescinded are those who have As and Bs when they apply and end senior year with Cs and Ds. You are not in that situation.

My high school doesn’t weight gpa no
The college I got accepted into is Pacific Lutheran University
