Already applied, but still, chances for U. of Chicago?

I have already applied to the University of Chicago for regular decision, but I was still wondering what my chances are at getting in?

I attend a public school in KS, that is not competitive, and it only offers about 8 AP classes, which I have taken 3 (two this year), due to schedule conflicts. Plus I have taken one of the most competitve curriculums at this school. Nonetheless, my UW GPA is 3.7, and I am ranked about 20/243 (last I knew, but senior semester one grades coulde up my rank).

My essays, I believe are pretty good, not to mention my recommendations are pretty awesome, one's from my AP US history teacher, and the other from my FBLA adviser, who was also my teacher in Accounting I, II, III, and IV.

FBLA (9, 11, 12)- Chapter President, and State Officer (District III Vice-President)
Amnesty International (12)- Chapter Secretary
Spanish Club (10, 11, 12)
Yearbook (11, 12)- Business Editor (handles financial so that publications can be printed)
Newspaper (11, 12)- Business Editor
501 School District Business Representative (11, 12)- Speaks w/ school reps. to improve business department in my school district, only student representative.
Volunteer Initiative (10, 12)- Don't know how many hours
Debate (11, 12)
Volunteered for March of Dimes via FBLA and for local hospital during the summer

Unfortunately my SAT is quite lackluster: CR 620, W 620, M 540
as well as my ACT 25: R 29, W 25, M 24, S 22

Hooks are: from a poor family, child of a single parents, and first generation.

Please feel free to be as blatant as possible, I'd rather be prepared now, instead of waiting the three months wondering.

no chance

10char

you have a chance because you sent in your app. just wait till March/April to find out what happens. It’s not like someone’s opinion on CC will change that. What’s done is done

Being poor/only having one parent aren’t hooks.

Ok, listen here. Chance threads can be VICIOUS on College Confidential. Unfortunately this is due to the “get-in-to-top-college-or-else” mentality of most of us students. You sent in your application, therefore, you have a better chance than EVERYONE who chose not to apply because they were afraid they might be weeded out. College dreams DO come true… quite often! My cousin applied to Columbia last year with a 1900 SAT and a 3.7UW. He was accepted, not wait listed…ACCEPTED. And he is a caucasian, male, christian, from an upper middle class family. Don’t let these ■■■■■■ on this evil website get the best of you. I wish you best of luck, and no matter the outcome, with stats like yours, I am sure you will go to a fantastic institution.

R-1 If your story is true it’s a very, very unusual outcome. With those stats an unhooked applicant would be lucky to get into any top 20 school. On the other hand with a hook anything is possible. Most applicants do not understand the huge advantage of any real hook.

There’s obviously a huge subjective element to admissions, but OP getting admitted appears unlikely. OP should definitely be sure to apply to target and safety schools in case Chicago doesn’t work out.

Thanks for the comments. Yes, I do realize acceptance is unlikely, the reason I posted this was because I was wanting an objective opinion. Plus, I did apply to five other colleges, another reach, two matches, and two safeties (all of which I would be happy to attend, however UofC top choice). Anyways, thanks again.

You can’t do anything now. Really no point stressing over your chances.

I was going to apply, but the essays were insane.

^The essays are the best part about the UChicago’s application. I mean, “Find X” is essentially another version of “Topic of Your Choice.”

Yeah, I chose the two different types of people.

You’re not getting in unless you have amazing essays, and even still it would be a long jump.
Have 4-5 safeties that you will get near to full rides to. Seriously.
