Attended IU for 2 years, thinking (hoping) I would get into Kelley by standard admission. Wanted Finance major. Now I didn't get in. What did others in this situation chose for a major? Econ? SPEA Public Finance? Any others?

I don’t exactly know your situation, but would IUPUI’s Kelley School of Business be an second option for you? Instead changing majors, if not then yeah the majors you mentioned are popular for students who didn’t get into Kelley especially SPEA.

For what material I would study, how close is Public Financial Management to Kelley’s Finance? How is SPEA’s reputation in the business world?

Have you talked to anyone in academic advising abut your situation? I am asking the question as the mom of a prospective applicantand am curious to know how strong IU’s advising and career services departments are? Not getting into the Finance major (as prestigious as it and Kelley are) may be a blessing in disguise. We live in the NY metro area whichis very Wall Street centric in termsof employment nd the constant buzz are the layoffs and downsizing in the banking industry. What about something completely different like Public Administration? Think about your academic strengths and likes, brainstorm and talk to people in the know at IU and the area where you might want to live and work after graduation and you will do fine. Good luck and seize this slight detour as an opportunity!

I don’t know if this might be a fit. The LAMP, Liberal Arts Management Program.
