Quote: The word joual is how people who speak joual say “cheval” (french for horse) which is MADNESS I say!

Kinda unrelated BUT I have a story! My mom studied like one year of French and my dad none. They were in France once at this really nice restaurant, and my dad saw some guy who had some kind of meat dish that looked really good. So my dad pointed to it and was like, I’ll have that. And when it came he thought it tasted very odd… like he wasn’t sure what kind of meat it was. He didn’t really eat very much of it. When my parents left the restaurant they saw a sign that said (in French) Specials: Cheval. My mom’s like, um, I don’t know that much French, but I think you just ate horse.

Gross!

SHOOT. The quote didn’t work. :(

Try again. Remember the round brackets.

YES. OH MY ATHEISM, YESSS.

i still want to be a linguist! (: well, among many other things…hah, i saw shirts the other day with a little gnome on the front and the caption: “gnome chomsky.” my math background is pretty weak, too. i have actually twitched in math class before because the subject is physically painful to me. math never really got fun until calc.

got accepted (har har) into the brown pre-college summer program. oh, the rigorous admissions process…i have 10 days to pick a course. anyone still interested? see ya, sunny!

hmm we have 3 marking periods per semester. in the middle of the 2nd one right now… but today i just turned in my requests for next year’s classes. it was so stressful choosing courses…lol. then again, i sometimes search through online college course catalogs for fun, so i guess not that unexpected that i’d have trouble narrowing down my choices.

School ends in a day and a half! I’m amazed. I’m also stressed out to all hell because I’m going to the US and visiting 7 colleges next week- and I’ve done no initial research about them. Oh well.

lessist- Hey, it’s cool to know that you almost moved to HK  I wish your parents would come teach at my school. We have a giant English department filled with incompetents, and the best teacher is leaving after this year.

Hey me too! I’m visiting like 10 on the East Coast in one week. : O

Let’s just say I’ll be getting a lot of use out of my driver’s permit…

Which ones are you visiting? Could you send me photos?

Has anyone attended the JHU SUmmer University courses. Are they selective at all? Were the classes good?

No idea. I did do JHU CTY’s long-distance writing program when I was younger and it was pretty good. I learned quite a lot. I wouldn’t think the summer program was selective though. It just seems like one of those where you throw fistfuls of money at them. (Not to say you won’t learn anything, but it’ll come at a price.)

Does anyone know anything about Barnard’s Summer in New York? (This feels like it could turn into an HSL game- summer-program-style!)
