Does it mean anything? Is it an actual interview or is it basically another info session from an alumni. Should I prepare anything, dress a certain way, etc? Is it affiliated with the admissions process or is it just something for future students to take advantage of?

Relax. Alumni interviews are used to just check whether you are a wierd kid or not. They send someone to check whether you dress, behave, act, talk normally. Nothing, nothing more than that.

It is actually important to do these interviews though. Believe me or not, there are very wierd people out there.
Ex: someone compeletely obsessed with religion dressing/talking in a very wierd way.

I did mine with an alumnus on Sunday. It went great. Unless you are applying to Hotel or Architecture, you really don’t need to view the interview as a make or break. The alumni writes up a 240 word report on you, and that’s about it.
It’s like getting another recommendation.
Dress casual, look nice, sound professional, and you’re golden.

I thought that it was not possible to get an interview if you were not applying for the hotel or architecture majors…

No, all the school do interviews, but whether or not you get one is based on alumni availability in your area. The interviews don’t deal with evaluating candidates. They submit short write-ups which can pretty much only help your chances, especially if you forgot something important on your applications that the interviewer can relay to admissions.

Don’t sweat it if you don’t get one…my D was never contacted & she was accepted with below average “stats” & no “hook”
