I had an alumnus that I know write me a letter of recommendation. On Sunday, I found out that the Dean of Admissions sent him a letter thanking him for his time. I have never heard of this before and I was wondering if that was standard procedure when alumni send in recs.

I don’t know if it’s standard, but the alum I asked to write me a letter got a similar reply.

I’m an alum, and I wrote a recommendation for my brother both last year and this year. I got the thank you letter from the Dean last week, although I didn’t get it last year…

I wonder if contacting alum and thanking them isn’t a way to keep alumni involved and contributing…time and money? I don’t mean to be cynical. I just think colleges and universities have an interest in keep alumni active.

…exactly :)

Jamiecakes- I figured that had to do with it. The better a school treats alumni, the better alumni treat the school.
