Yea I think the whole "This doesn't mean ANYTHING"-thing is crap (I hope). My friend and I both applied to UCSC, among other UCs. She received the invitation from UCSC, but I didn't. We were both admitted but UCSC was the most "selective" UC she got into (I've gotten into all but UCLA). Why do I mention this? Im thinkin maybe, just maybe, the "best" UC you get into or the one your most likely to attend will send the invite. Maybe this seems a little farfetched but its just what Ive observed.

to make a long story short
i wasn't even going to apply to ucb
but i was in awe when we took a spur of the moment visit last fall
my top is chapman; i was accepted and got a dean's scholarship
now the problem is my safety-usf, just gave me a 30k scholarship
and my mother who's always said "it's not about the money"
is like USF THIS AND USF THAT
if this berkeley thing is true
AND
I really worked hard on my Stanford apps, on top of the fact they're apparently taking this families w/less than 40k a year into consideration (my mom's a single parent-26k)
and I get into those 2 as well
I'm screwed
What are the chances I will/won't get in to UCB (and stanford)?
I won't be offended if you say i'll be R;that'd just make my decision easier

Uhhh....lotta people are telling me the out-of-state/asian thing is going to totally kill me even with good stats, is this true?

To lastcall17:

Berkeley seems to be all about GPA and essays. So don't fret about the SAT too much. I'd say you have a so-so shot. I mean people got in with 1000/1600 last year so it's not like it's impossible. Your ECs are impressive so ya keep your fingers crossed. Don't know much about Standford just that it's uber tough to gain admission, to a much greater extent than Cal. USF is bomb (hahah and no this isn't your mother).

To dylin88:

Berkeley doesn't take your race into account when making a decision. I'd say if you didn't apply to something like EECS you should be fine.

you guys are all doing well, and nobody knows...so everybody keep there heads up :) and best of luck to you too lastcall!!

wait....what's EECS? I applied to like...some pre-business or something like that because I want to apply to Haas later if I end up going to berkeley

EECS=Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences. I believe pre-biz is under arts and sciences which is good (all the easier to get into).

so in short, receiving this email doesn't mean we got accepted?

well in the first email it says "check the website on March 30th for more information regarding your acceptance" which sounds a lot like the letter i got from ucla engineering before i got accepted to ucla. the second email comes around saying to disregard that statement and keeps on repeating that the alumni scholarship has nothing to do with admission. they must have messed up or something. just wait another 6 days.

Hello Alumni Scholarship Leadership Award Applicants,

You haven't heard from us in a while, so we thought it was about time to send you an update and just say "Howdy". A week from now, you should receive word from the UC Berkeley admissions office regarding your acceptance to UC Berkeley. For admissions information, you can head to http://www.uga.berkeley.edu/admissions/index.asp

If you are offered admission to UC Berkeley, you will receive an email from our office no later than Saturday, April 1 with an update about your UC Berkeley Alumni Scholarship Leadership Award status. But it will not be an April Fools Day joke. It will be serious.

In the meantime, we'd like to tell you about a very special program offered only to Alumni Scholarship applicants. If you are admitted to UC Berkeley, you will be invited to attend the Overnight Stay Program on April 21-22 or 23-24. This program, organized by Alumni Scholars, is a very personalized way to spend some time on the UC Berkeley campus, spend the night in the dorms, eat in the dining halls, get to know other potential UC Berkeley incoming students, and know what 24 hours in the life of a UC Berkeley student is like.

Registration will begin on April 8th and is filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Please see below for more information, but be sure to mark your calendar now. We'll let you know more next week.

Thanks very much and best of luck,

then it goes on to talk bout the overnight stay program. are your emails different? where does it mention the 30th?

ya
sorry..i meant what does ameer's say
my letter is the same as yours anxious77
perhaps it was a paraphrase?

here's another thought - more fuel to the speculation: why would they tell us all about that "Overnight Stay Program" in such detail? A little early to share the news with just EVERYBODY right?

anybody know the time and time zone decisions are posted???

5 pacific standard time, 8 est

am or pm????

5pm pst, sorry

nah its ok
its better than 3 A.M. for me
at least i'll be able to sleep throu the night
