How much does Alumni status play a role in admissions? If a parent went to grad school, will it help?
Also, I know the UC’s aren’t supposed to show any prefercen for alumni, but would having 3 family members plus grandfather donated money to UC Berkeley not help me at all?

If grandfather donated a major amount of money, say over a half million dollars, it will help. If he donated a bit less to a specific cause there and has "friends" at the school, it can also help. Otherwise, UCs really don't consider legacy status.

Some schools consider you a legacy if your parent went to a grad school (Stanford for one), others only if one was an undergrad.

In general, unless your family are major donors, legacy is basically a tip factor, you have to be fully qualified for admission based on stats.

Yeah, the schools I have legacy at, I am more than qualified for (my class rank and SAT exceed averages by quite a bit). So, I guess they wouldn't really matter anyways. It would just be nice to have an extra reassurance tho.
