Am I a freshman??

Hi!
What if someone, already taken an yr off after schooling and now he is in first yr of his college, want to apply to US?

But u aren't one r u? The first year student would probably transfer to a US school.

naaa....one of my friend askd me...

i am in the same boat really. At most colleges he will be considered a transfer applicant, at some colleges he can also apply as freshman if he so wishes, and at a very few colleges he can only apply as freshman and not as a transfer applicant.

What if he has taken A levels in the later yr?

Same answer I think. The point is that he has taken classes in a college, and merely that fact makes him a transfer applicant in almost every college.

That's what I discovered a few months back, and I can tell you I had to severely restrict my college list as a result.

so...u hav taken a gap yr n then joind a college?

btw,what is ur college list?

Actually no, what i did was join college directly after finishing school, with no gap year. But I think his situation will be viewed similarly when it comes to transfer vs first-year.

My college list right now is: Harvard, Yale, Amherst, Kenyon. I am applying to all of them as freshman.

I would recommend that your friend research a lot of colleges and find out what their regulations are regarding transfer admissions (either through email or from their websites). He might well find quite a few colleges that allow him to apply as freshman. But the fact that he has been out of school for two years could count against him.

Also it's helpful if he doesn't need fin. aid since then a wider range of colleges will be open to him.

Or he might hide the fact that he even goes to college. But two gap years will be terribly hard to explain lol.

And wat bout the other ivies......n MIT,JHU,Stanford?

the truth is some colleges do give credit for the courses you have taken and some donot. If you cannot get credit for your first year college courses, then probably you have to apply as a freshman.

Actually, He has completed his 1st semester...

bump.....need help...

The best idea would be for your friend to contact each of his prospective colleges individually and get official notification on their policy with regard to his unique situation.

that's true; the websites sometimes have information on this but usually they don't, so asking the colleges directly is the best policy.
