I didn't get into RU Pharmacy because of my SAT/ACT score, but I did get into the School of Engineering. I was planning to do Biomed for engineering as a back up if I didn't get accepted to pharmacy. But is it possible for me to take two years of Biomedical Engineering and then switch to pharmacy?

yeah I wanna know too. I’m in SAS but I won’t be able to complete my prereqs in 2 years time due to my math placement score so I was figuring if its possible to graduate with a bachelors, take the PCAT then apply as a transfer to Pharmacy. It’ll be 1-2 years extra but would they still allow such admissions?

It’s possible, however it is very competitive. There are a very limited amount of spots open for transfer students.

Its a very long shot.

@pokeabubble, I am not sure how easy it would be switch from BME to pharmacy. Will you able to finish up pharmacy pre-reqs in 2 years while taking BME courses? And btw BME itself is a very good major.

@jazzfreak, yes you can apply to rutgers pharmacy after a bachelors but it would be very competitive. After you get your bachelors, I suppose you can also apply to other pharmacy schools who do not take in students directly from high school.

@collegebiomed So, even with summer classes switching into pharmacy would be difficult?
I know BME is good, hehe, but pharmacy was my dream and something that I really wanted…

you should have applied to MCPHS or USP 6 year programs. they are much easier to get into.

Ya you can transfer in, but you would have to take PCATs and need a bachelors.

Gotmilk, I applied to both as with RU and got rejected. I like the idea of having two degrees since if Pharmacy doesn’t work out, I can try and obtain a Masters or PhD by doing grad work in related fields but I still want to go for the PharmD and practice in the clinical setting.

You don’t need to have a bachelor’s degree. All you need is the prerequisites and a PCAT score. I don’t even think the PCAT is required. It only says strongly recommended.

I was planning on transferring to RU pharm but changed my mind. The pharmacists I worked for transferred from brookdale community college straight into professional year of rutgers pharmacy. She didn’t have a degree. Only completed prereqs and a PCAT score.

Really soccerguy? I thought for any pharmacy school, if you plan on transferring in or going to that pharmacy school, you needed to get a 4 year degree (with the prereq) and PCATs.

For most pharmacy schools you need that - but not for Rutgers and a few other select 2+4 schools
