I am a pharmacy student at Rutgers 0+6 program and am a freshman. I did not like my first semester at Rutgers and was thinking about transferring to UNC. I have a few pros and cons of whether or not to leave or not. I was hoping if I could get some feed back on staying at Rutgers or not. By the way, I would do pharmacy at UNC as well.

Pros:
1. UNC would give me a better education (at least in my opinion)
2. I would be able to meet new people because at Rutgers I am constantly with people from my high school whether I like it or not. For some reason I always see them and it ends up that I am stuck hanging out with them. I want to meet new people.
3. UNC's pharmacy program is a top two program in the nation

Cons:
1. I would have to take the PCATs since I wouldn't be in a 0+6 program anymore
2. I am not guaranteed admission into pharmacy school whereas at Rutgers I would
3. Rutgers has tons of pharmaceutical companies nearby whereas at UNC I'm not really sure about the area

Stats:
1. College GPA: 3.81
2. High School GPA 4.50 (rank 8/290)
3. SAT: Math: 790 Writing: 770 CR: 720
4 EC's/Volunteering: I was very involved in high school and did a few things at Rutgers my first semester.

I’m also a first-year pharmacy student at RU, so i think i understand how you feel a little more than anyone else will. I’ve also been thinking about transferring after finishing our first semester. Our stats our nearly identical, down to the exact numbers, and i realize the choices that are available to you. In my personal opinion I think that if you truly want to do Pharmacy, then you might as well stay. A pharmD is a pharmD regardless of where you get it. It’s a means to an end. Give it one or two more semesters. If you really don’t like it then apply for transfer next winter after the pp years. Pharm school is a 6-8 year commitment, you can afford to give it a bit more time.

as former NJ resident now living in NC - I’d say stay at Rutgers. UNC is beautiful campus and - yes - many people here are transplants from northeast but it’s still a big cultural leap. And why would you transfer when you aren’t even sure you can get into the program?
Give yourself more than a semester before you make a decision – branch out join some clubs etc and meet new people.

You’re actually considering trying to transfer from one of the best Pharm programs around to UNC without knowing you would get into it their program. I think you need to have a talk with your parents, not strangers on CC.
