Hi, so I am thinking of applying again to UPenn in the fall as a sophomore. I have great a great high school record except for my SAT scores...In other words, they suck (1980). I didn't prepare for them at all and I didn't really focus on them. My SAT subject area tests aren't so great either. I know I can reach 2100 if I retake them. However, am I allowed to take the SAT again and the subject area tests even though I am already in college? Or should I let them be and hope that they don't weigh the scores so heavily?

Yes you can retake them. Remember that less weight is put on them in the transfer admissions game.

Another thing: re-taking the SATs will backfire unless you make significant improvement. If you only go up 30 points, well that will just look plain silly. Don’t get obsessed with numbers: college admissions officers aren’t. If you can show that a 1980 is not an accurate reflection of who you are as a person and as a s student, than the SATs will be a big waste of your time. focusing on school work, campus and community involvement will boost your chances much more than studying your ass off for 120 points that don’t really matter. It is important to realize they wont pick based on SAT scores. plenty of 2300+ get rejected

Of course, it varies college by college, so talk with the admissions counselors and find out for yourself.

I am a transfer student from my community college and only got a 1600 on my SAT’S : in total. I was also wondering if I should retake them before applying somewhere? If it will up my chances

It really depends

first, will you be transferring for your third year?
second, where do you want to try to transfer to?
