Am I an idiot?

Copypasta from the AP forum (where I got no replies :[ )

Alright, so, here's my situation:

I go to a basically terrible school. Like I mean, it's bad. Half the kids don't even go to college. They generally enjoy T-Pain. THAT kind of bad. The AP courses offered are a joke. In the entirety of its existence, the AP Physics Exam has been passed by 5 kids. Ever. It makes me want to cry.

Needless to say, I didn't take any APs; I didn't believe in abusing grade inflation. I took one 'advanced' class, in which I was the only student that received an A on every test. Whenever the teacher noticed that everyone had Cs, she assigned 'projects' which mainly consisted of "draw a picture of your favorite character!", which I never did, and ended up with a B because of it. I made sure to put this in my personal statement on college apps, while at the same time trying to convey that I'm intelligent and plan on taking rigorous coursework in college (hard to do in 2 paragraphs). HOWEVER, I had no idea that self-studying for APs was a doable thing, and I kind of want to do that now. I was thinking Calculus, English, and Psych. Here are a few questions about this process:

First and foremost, is it possible to tell the colleges that I plan on doing this? I think that this will really convey the message I was trying to make on my apps. If not, I probably won't do it for reasons other than self-satisfaction.

Additionally, how difficult would these exams be to self-study for?

Finally, due to my school's aforementioned suck-level, I've arranged to finish high school classes at the end of the winter semester, so as to take a full-time semester of college in the spring. That semester ends May 15th; would this be before or after the AP exams? If before (or close enough to the point where it would be negligible) should I take Calc and Psych for this semester? Or would it be counter-productive, since I'm (obviously) receiving college credit already?

Also, would 1400 SATs be considered high enough to solidify the message I was trying to get across in my apps?

Is 1400 M-CR, or all 3?

EDIT: lol this is what used to happen in 2008 when people posted!!!

I’m confused. Why is this backwards?

Idk what’s going on with the posts, lol

But yes, 1400 is Math and CR. 2100 total

Lol, incorrect reply order. This has happened before.

I told colleges about the courses I was self-studying in the “Additional Information” box, if it was included. I also spoke about it with the schools’ interviewers, and they took note of it. I may have mentioned it in passing on one my essays, but I don’t remember.

Your SAT score does indicate that you have the capacity to be a very strong student. An SAT score alone however, does not paint the whole picture.

Well, I mean, I got all A’s in the classes I took. Ended up with like a 3.75 GPA, except that my weighted GPA…is also 3.75, lol. I just didn’t take any weighted courses, because they’re just GPA-buffers around here and I thought it was stupid.

I’m also good looking and often get laid

you don’t need to worry about college then.

I thought my posting before you even made this thread would make it cool …

Fear not, as your time-defying post has most certainly made this thread cool. I was commenting on the previous poster.

lol I know how it’s going down

You are an idiot.

If I was a college admissions officer, I would probably see your complaints as though you didn’t take advantage of your opportunities. If the AP/advanced classes were bad, the regular classes you took should have been worse. Even if they weren’t, good luck explaining that to admissions officers. Plus, the only advanced class you did take, you refused to do the drawing that would have gotten you an A, which just shows to colleges you refuse to take the appropriate initiative.

^I’m against stupid High School ******** as much as the next guy, but he’s right essentially. I don’t see how taking classes that are well below your ability level would make high school suck less. And you could have graduated early with harder classes.

However I do understand the mindset you are in (just not your actions). What I would do is NOT write about not doing assignments…why you think this is at all appealing to anyone running a college is beyond me. Instead, I wouldn’t try to explain this at all. With a 1400 SAT and a 3.75 GPA you will get into plenty of colleges regardless of the lack of rigor in your schedule. The semester ends after APs, and I don’t see the point of taking the exams if you are already getting credit, especially as (I assume) a senior.
