Am I an International Student or not?

For some reason, I am in a different country and I do the Edexcel International GCSE, yet I am a citizen of the US and have a US passport.

If I come back to the US when I graduate High School and apply for University, would I be treated as an International Student?

You are not an international student, and so you will not be treated like an international student. Different countries have different definitions of an international student. According to Wikipedia… the definition of an international student in the United States is: a student who is enrolled at an institution of higher education in the US who is NOT a citizen of the US, an immigrant, or a refugee.

The answer is a bit more complicated than a yes-or-no question.

For statistical and financial aid purposes, you are a domestic student. However, you will have to follow the admission procedures for students educated abroad (which are normally explained in the “international students” section of the admissions webpage). Be aware that you may be an out-of-state student and have to pay higher out-of-state tuition rates in every single state.

You do need to communicated directly with each of the colleges and universities on your list. Most of them will have the person in the International Admissions Office who is the most familiar with the country where you are studying read your application materials. You also might need to take the TOEFL.
