I just graduated from a community college and unfortunately, two of my semesters weren't the greatest due to personal circumstances. I graduated with a rather low 2.0 GPA in my final semester, to be blunt, am I screwed? I'm 25 and sent off a few applications to a couple of instate (north carolina) schools. A college adviser informed me that any persona/emergency circumstances might allow the university to look a bit more favorably upon me. Honestly, I'm just scared about my chances due to my age at this point in life and my less than stellar academic history - I had to drop out of high school and have only just now gotten my Associates degree. I've always wanted to go to university but a part of me is really feeling like I've reached the end of the line as far as education goes.

do you have a ged? not having a hs diploma hurts your application chances.
honestly at this point you’ll prob have to go to whatever school will accept you; whether their education is even worth the tuition will be your call (IMO NO unless you get certified in something marketable, IT-Linux, Accounting, etc)

If the personal difficulties that led to those bad grades are now solidly behind you, pay visits to each of the institutions that you applied to, and have a nice long personal chat with the admissions officer who is responsible for Non-Traditional Age Students. Perhaps you can be admitted directly to the program that you are interested in. Perhaps you will be asked to enroll in non-degree status for a semester or so in order to demonstrate that you really are ready for coursework at that institution. Perhaps you will be advised to return to your CC for a semester or so in order to accumulate some more good grades before re-applying.

Please don’t be surprised if each institution that you visit gives you different advice.

Wishing you all the best!

I have my GED. I actually graduated with an overall 2.2 for my program and was hoping to get into any school for social work.

I have my GED. I applied to some of the schools with 2.0 GPA requirements since my cumulative program GPA was a 2.2 and was hoping to go into social work.
