Am I basically screwed?

I checked my status on the websites for Williams and several of the other schools I applied to and it said that I was missing my second recommendation from a teacher. I just found out today that my teacher forgot to send my letters out. She said she'd send them out today, but is it too late?

It shouldn’t hurt you for most colleges. Ask your teacher to note the failure to send on her part.

This kind of thing happens all the time. Colleges don’t usually hold it against the student when schools/teachers mess up.

But, yes, ask the teacher to note that she forgot to send it in.

. . . and I’d call the Admissions Office at Williams to let them know that you’ve asked the teacher to send it in.

Really, if you think about all the students applying to college, all the teachers being asked for recs, and the wide variation in follow-through tendencies among all those teachers, you’ll realize that this is very, very common.

It’s not a big deal. Colleges don’t hold students accountable for teacher’s delays on reccs.

Do remember to give your teacher a nice thank-you note.

Call the schools to apologize and let them know the rec’s coming. Then get your teacher to attach an apology note with it.

Then breathe–you’re not held accountable for your teacher’s mistake.

Thank you so much everyone!
