I cannot believe it. I talked with my teacher today and she tells me that she still haven't send in my letter because she was ill all week!!!! The sad part is.. she knew the deadline was Dec. 1!!!... what's going to happen to me? I've already sent in everything else..... and she tells that she's sending them in 2morrow...

chillax dude. just let her send it asap, and have your teacher call the admissions office and explain the situation

Call the college and explain the situation. Maybe they can call and talk to the teacher to verify? I don't know, but that's your best shot... they won't be happy about the late postmark, but it's out of your hands.

so I won't be penalized?

if you handle it calmly** and professionally, then no. so relax.

Don't sound so self righteous. She works, probably has a family and in her "free" time writes recommendation letters probably for dozens of students. She probably had things planned so that she would have gotten the letter in on time, but unexpectedly must have gotten very sick to have been out for a week. I imagine that similar things have happened to you.

Anyway, colleges will not penalize you for late recommendations because colleges know that students aren't directly responsible for those. Colleges do, however, tend to penalize students for missing deadlines that are soley the students' responsibility.

My advice is to just call or e-mail the school and explain, and ask your teacher also to mention in her recommendation why it's late. It would be good if you also have the courtesy to express some concern about her health and to express the hope that she's feeling better.

thanks everyone
