Am I cheating myself by getting a TI-89?

and I would still say even though it is a good tool, you could get a better and more efficient tool for the same or even lesser price if you bought new from amazon.

why buy a Honda for one price when you could get a porsche for less than than of the Honda. It doesn't make sense. It may make sense to you but not to me, the hp 50G is a awesome deal and buying a lesser product for a higher price doesn't make sense.

This is the nerdiest conversation I have ever read on CC up to date. Congrats!

l0l ny ;)

I still say if for the practical applications you will be using the calculator for (high school and undergrad), the calculators are essentially the same, then you might as well go for ease of use (or familiarity).

There are many, many programs available for the 89T.

Well that too!

Unfortunately I lost my TI-89 usb cable long ago and have not been able to sample the plethora of offerings available :(

Just walk on the MIT campus, you'll find several lying around like loose change :p. And it only costs around $15 anyway.

True, but one of the reasons why I like the TI-89 is that I have really had no need to do so. The built in functions seem to be more than enough to solve the problems I have at hand.

Anything requiring additional functionality, I use MATLAB or Maple for which are provided free here.

I'm still on my TI 83+

sheesh.

I got my TI-89 for the SAT's and haven't looked back.

My calculator is going on 6+ years old :o

I used a blue scientific calculator on my SAT.

Sheesh.

l0llll, well let me say the 89 was very useful on the SATII math IIc ;)

I'm taking that this June. Do you really think I should update, or is my 83+ fine?

Ah for that I really think the 83 will be fine.

I just went up to 89 because I wanted to use it through college (which I have) :)

Cool. I don't know a thing about calculators. And I don't know in what I want to major either. I'm lost.

^^ Major in platypodology. Now you're not lost. Plus you won't need a calculator, just some gloves and a mirror.

There are soooo many things in which I'm interested. Physics, writing, literature, philosophy, journalism, mathematics, and even business, EVEN business(!), I never thought I would say that, but even business (my family is in business, and I hate their perspective on life, so that's why I've always hated business.)

What would you do w/ philosophy?
I remember you told me once that your poetry writing/reading had deteriorated but then you wrote me a poem. I liked that poem.
I love journalism. And literature. And writing.
I hate business. It's basically all about lies and I could never do that for a living. I'm not a hardcore capitalist, if you couldn't tell.
I say, still with platypodology.

Major in 1337 P\/\/||4G3. That pretty much sums all of that up.

l0l I agree with CT

Sunshineyday, that poem was crap. I read it over, and I couldn't stop laughing. It clearly sounded overly trite.
